I just found 25 boxed sets of Aoshima samurai kits that I had forgetten that I had. Does anyone know when these stopped being offered? I believe it was in the mid 80s that I got these. Thanks

I think you would be right in saying mid to late 1980's. I have a few and there are no dates on the boxes or instructions and am led to believe they originated in the 1970's.

Would like to know more myself.

They are worth hoarding. They appear to fetch quite high prices on ebay if offered.

Hi, The only painting info seems to be the color illusrations on the boxes. I had great plans to do a diorama with these figures..but my interests in painting figures have changed to other eras.

You are right. I looked on ebay and only found about ten offerings. They ranged from about $ 20.00 per box[ including shipping] to $ 110.00 per box [with shipping}. Who would have thought. I am no longer interested in doing what I had planned with them years ago so I will have to think about what to do with them.

I have a bunch of those kits, too, for a future samurai diorama.

The ones you see on eBay at an asking price around a hundred bucks, have probably been on eBay at that price for many years, they're just not moving. $20 apiece is not a bad asking price and should move them pretty well.

They are pretty good kits and can be used to make some very nice display of medieval Japan.

If I remember correctly, Tamiya also made some 1/35 samurai, which can be used with the Aoshima figures, too.

The Aoshima kits are a good example of the variation in quality across the catalog. Those are some nicely-sculpted figures. The 1/72 WWII fighter kits that Aoshima put out, on the other hand, are pretty lousy, even in their day. Thick plastic, both colored and the transparencies, rough details. And their contributions to the Waterline series of kits along, with Hasegawa, Tamiya and Fujimi, fall somewhere in between.

Prost!

You might want to post this in the Classified area of the forum, for more visibility.

I don't have that set Shiloh but will keep a look out for it. There was a guy selling a few sets on E-bay a few months ago at a reasonable price.

could you post a scan/picture of those 25 sets ?
Could be interesting
