Yeah, it starts wide showing this Friday. The major actors in this movie, Harris, Mortenson, and Irons have become the Burton's, Fonda's and Wayne' of this generation of movies. Some of the charater actors are just as good - Gammon, Rains, some of the others.

I have to travel 45 miles to a theater worth a darn, so Friday night it's road trip time.

I viewed this movie yesterday. I thought it was really good. The film was written and directed by Ed Harris I believe. There was certainly a lot more humor in it then I expected. Worth theatre price to go and check out.

Take Care

Finally saw it. Not a great movie, but still very good in the old western tradition. Good actors. I made the mistake of reading the book first so that diminished some of the plot. Overall it's worth a viewing if you like westerns.

Well it will be out on BRD and I presume DVD on January 6th so you could always wait. I think I will try it as a Netflix selection that way.

Surprised at how old this thread was and had to go back about 6 pages to find it.

Really enjoyed this one late last evening. It had a similar feel to 3:10 to Yuma I thought. I'd recommend this one if you are in the mood for a good basic Western with likable characters.

Renee Zellweger! She's the female Lon Chaney!

She looked authentically weather beat!

This one is worth a viewing if you are a western fan. Some good actors. However, it seems like Hollywood lost the knack for making truly great westerns. A few exceptions, but not many I can think of in the last thirty years.

I agree, yet she seems to get a lot of work! Everytime you turn around she is in another movie.

No No...I meant that in a good way. Lon Chaney could change his looks for what the movie wanted so he got a lot of work. Renee doesn't seem to be worried about not being "pretty" and plays some rough and beaten parts, especially in historical movies.

Yes I agree, she certainly doesn't worry about her looks! I enjoy watching her, and think she must have a lot of self confidence....especially when you consider how most women are really concerned with their appearance.
