I have a question for Britains and the collectors. Is there a market for gloss remakes or new makes of the old Britains style, Mignot style, Dorset style toy soldier. I have become a recent convert to this look and truthfully, would rather buy a new mint set vs some old beat up back yard refugee. And so if Britains made them, would people buy them? Michael

Several years ago Britains did do remakes of hollowcast soldiers. Just like 3 years ago. These always show up on ebay and you can get them for a good price. If Britains did these again I'd definitely buy them. Another company is William Hocker. These are brand new sets that look just like old Britains.
Mignot are still in production and they look the same way they always have. You can get brand new sets of Mignot from Le Petit Soldat. Both Hocker and Le Petit Soldat are in the U.S and have websites. I gotta figure out how to provide links.

Hi Guys,

The question of remakes is a good one. I think there are many folks out there thats would go for the older style soldiers but its a select market. This said, the folks at Britains must have anticipated this idea and they are producing a special set for the Collectors Club of Their Half Booted Coldstream Guards Marching. It is the same look and style as the 1907 original set and is one that I have been considering. It may be a good thing to join the collectors club to be able to purchase this set as it will only be produced to fill the orders which must be received by 1 April 07. The price is right too at $60 US.

I have several of the Hollow Cast figures that were done recently and I really like them The rearing horse 17th Lancer Officer and the 9th Lancer Mtd Band are truly wonderful.

So I would support this idea.

All the best

Dave

Dave - could not have said it better myself - thank you for letting folks know about the club set.

That 17th Lancer on the rearing horse is one of my favorites too - Britains had a great knack for capturing action on their cavalry - still love the officer turned in the saddle.

Michael,

My favourtie figures are vintage and new gloss Britains. I've been getting the new metal figures since Britains started producing them in 1983. Their limited editions are still done in the vintage fashion and some of these command high prices auction. I suspect W.Britains will see how sales of the Guards Club set do, and if they do well, we hopefully will see future such sets annually. I think a new annual "100 year anniversary" re-make would be great and do well.
