I have seen these buildings before in King and Country advertisements. But are they King and Country? I have seen the name "Carter Scenics" bandied about in relation to these. What is "Carter Scenics"? But more importantly, where can we buy these buildings?

They are not King and Country, although they look a lot like the K&C desert buildings and for good reason. Carter Scenics is a company owned by John Jenkins which designs limited run scenics and custom buildings and dioramas. The only time I have seen their products are two places in Italy and photos of a desert fort for the K&C Ascari range at the WestCoaster Toy Soldier Show. I think the desert fort is now at King & Country in Hong Kong. At least one of the K&C desert buildings series came from a John Jenkins design commissioned by K&C. Your best bet may be to just buy the K&C desert buildings.

Hi Guys,

Terry is correct that these are not K&C buildings although the Italian “Askaris” definitely are!

However, if I may, a couple of small corrections...

The K&C “Askari” fort was made by a good friend and K&C collector in Italy and brought back to HK by yours truly where Gordon designed the landscape base and added other details. It was later displayed at, I think, the “West Coaster”, two years ago and now happily resides with a collector in Knoxville Tenn.

As for “at least one of the K&C desert buildings came from a John Jerkins design commissioned by K&C”. Sorry, Terry, but John designed none of the buildings for the “desert village”...Gordon and yours truly must be held responsible for those.

On a related note...this is the first time I’ve heard of “Carter Secenics” but I do agree they look very good.

Thanks again Terry and best wishes,

Andy

Andy...

I'm 99% sure these are made by Carlo Terrinoni...
and yes you displayed one of his buildings at the West Coaster that you or Gordon added groundwork to...
Carlo does very nice work...
his work is very diverse...
he does all eras...
he is a member of Treefrog...
he does produce under the label "Carter"...
I'm sure he will see this and reply...

hi everyone.
Yes I am the builder of those desert buildings that Kcfan posted in this thread.
As my dear friend Mikemiller says well (Mike as all you know is a valuable dioramist too!), I enjoy to build houses and accessories for some collectors here in Italy and elsewhere in the world and I gave to my ‘line’ the name of ‘CarTer Scenics’...lol.
During one of his Italian visits Andy nicely asked me to build a fort for the Italian Ascari collection and I was very proud to make it for the most famous TS manufacturer in the world.
Another desert building of mine inspired a second K&C item then widely improved by Andy and Gordon.
The misunderstanding with the John Jenkins firm was born because a site inaccurately entered some of my items in the section dedicated to this other great TS manufacturer.
Nevertheless those interested to receive information about my job can send me a PM.
Thanks to all for the kind comments highly appreciated.
Cheers
Carlo

I think both you and Mike make superb buildings, Carlo ^&cool

Which other item of K&C did you inspire. I thought it was this one which is the desert building I bought a few years ago.

I thought the story about John Jenkins was odd to be only in Italy with CarTer, but your model does have characteristics of John Jenkins as well as the K&C desert buildings so I believed the story?

hi Terry, the item is more recent. I'm happy I sorted everything. Many thanks for the appreciations but you overestimate my job, I can't really compete with the excellent sets of K&C and JJD.
Cheers

Hi Andy,

On that note, when can we, collectors, expect more Desert buildings for our delight and to use in our ever growing options for desert ware fare????:cool::cool::cool:
Cheers

Carlo,

Those buildings you created are beautiful works of art. They look perfect with the Askari set. Why didn't you consider mass producing them with K&C?
