I just got four sets of the 17th Lancers today, 6/16, and took some shots...

I'd like to see how someone paints them. I'm afraid they look like a cross between TIMPO and BMC figures. I may not use the cast-on pegs but custom fit each rider to his horse. The Extra officers and buglers may have uses with other units. The lances (you get 2 extra with each set) are too weak to support painting but do stay straight enough.

Hi Scott

nice pics - I am work in progress with mine - yes they do require some attention to improve them.
I have swopped the flimsy lances for sturdy Timpo plastic versions and will attach paper red and white pennnants for the Lancers.
The Hussars are good figures and the Light Dragoons and will look good when painted/finished.
The horses lack muscle definition, but will try to shade them to help the appearance. I am also going to add horse rolled blankets at the front of the saddle area and rear valises to make them more realistic.

Hopefully a large group will look full of action - dash and fire as they were called in their day! - and the imperfections wont be noticed.

I wonder if AIP will make some Heavy Brigade Cavalry to go with this set plus some Russian Artillery and Riflemen????

These pics are not working. Are you guys doing something wrong or am I screwed up?

Try cleaning out your cache and empty your recycle bin, then refresh.

Hi Scott,

have managed to paint a set of each as 4th Light Dragoons, 11th Hussars and 17th Lancers.

Will post pics when fully completed

I want to paint 2 more lots as the 8th Hussars and 13th Light Dragoons to represent each regiment at the Charge itself.

Then I will paint the Lancers set as the 16th Lancers at the Battle of Aliwal in 1846, but they had scarlet coatees and white linen czapka helmet covers against the heat in British India. The uniform was identical in style so no converting is required. Likewise the Light Dragoons set can be painted as the 14th LD who were in India in 1854 and had white shako covers.

stay tuned

Regards,
Dave

I think painting them with appropriate differences and varying the positions of the riders would really perk them up a bit. What about making (or finding) some new lances to paint?

Hi - stay tuned - not far off completion with the paint job including sturdier replacement lances

Here the 17th Lancers are serving as Polish Lancers. I made lances from plastic stock and printed out some pennons I made in "Paintbrush" on my PC. I also refitted the riders to the horses by moving the hole for forward.
