A Call to Arms have just released a set of Normans - I will attempt to post photos as soon as they arrive which should be later this week.
I reported on these last year, they were put on hold but have now suddenly been released.
Meanwhile, A-I-P have announced a further 5 additional sets of elephants albeit not in limited quantities like the first 5 sets - so that's good news.
Loads include a choice of a water barrel, mortar, howitzer and 2 different options of cannon. It all makes for some interesting diodramas.
Lastly, look out for new releases from Replicants on May 24th at the Plastic Warrior Show.

I have seen The Normans, 4 poses and not that great poses they also have a flat look.
But im not really complaining how often do we get figures from the Dark Ages...Painted up they should look ok and would make good 2nd rank fillers behind the Conte Norman's.

Might be good to fight Robin Hood figures.
AIP will have some new releases soon. Not sure yet but I think some of us will be happy. I don't have confirmation yet on what but I have confirmation that it will be 3 to 5 new figure sets. As soon as I know for sure I'll post it.

I sure hope it's US Civil War.

Well, I don't think that's in the near future, maybe later this year or next year. AIP has the civil war pretty well covered e.g. Reb infantry, Iron Brigade, Zouaves, Sharpshooters and gun crews. Cavalry would be nice as the other mfgs have ignored this or not done them well (BMC comes to mind, Xforce were way too small, Imex and TSSD too large). So, we may see them but I would guess not soon. I know it's frustrating sometimes but remember it takes quite a while for these things to get made. I liked the cavalry/apache's from Paragon but it seemed to take a year between releases. Right now AIP is our best resource, with all due respect to the others. They've been steady, releasing several sets each year. CTS for instance, really did a great job with their civil war and world war 2 figures but I think it's been 2 years since they did anything. Maybe CTS will do cavalry. I think based on their civil war infantry figures that they'll do cavalry really well. Time will tell.

That's a pretty good list but there are no "standard" Union infantry, field artillery or cavalry. Not much use for heavy artillery other than forts or sieges. Limited use for sharp shooters. Zouave and Iron Brigade are good.

US and CS cavalry would be great. Some AIP sets are self limiting when it comes to use for the collector and repeat sales. AIP usually has good useful poses that one can built a unit of attacking and a unit of firing figures. A Union set along with the "veteran" CS infantry set would only be limited in sales by the size of ones table to hold them. The price is so good that even a thrifty collector like me could built a collection of 100s over a short time.

Agreed. AIP goes very well with Marx. Marx IMHO is the gold standard of civil war figures. Not because they were well detailed, they really weren't. The artillery man with the back pack, etc. were really incorrect. But the animation was outstanding, the charging officer, stabbing down, union flag bearer, shot dropping pistol, etc. were the best. And they did have a 30 year head start. I think AIP and the new CTS mix in with Marx the best. But you are correct, there is a lack of cavalry in the mix. My guess is AIP if they do civil war cavalry will do 1 set of generic cavalry, in blue, gray, butternut, etc. That would be a good economic decision, even though most of us would like to see specific yank and reb cavalry. At this point I'll take whatever comes. I use the long coated Marx for union cavalry but those **** bandanna's make that a stretch (although I think Custer's Michigan cavalry had bandannas).
