Hi

you should keep a look out for the new 54mm sets from AIP - Hussars, Lancers and Light Dragoon sets depicting mounted cavalry of the British Light Brigade 1854 Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War.
There are sets of 5 mounted figures easily depicted per regiment - 4th Queens Light Dragoons, 13th Light Dragoons, 8th Kings Royal Irish Hussars,
11th Prince Alberts Own Hussars and the 17th Duke of Cambridges Own Lancers.
I have ordered 10 boxes and will be creating a charge after painting. I am sure that AIP will make some Russian Artillery and Riflemen for the other end of the valley of death!

Thanks, I looked at the AIP site but there's nothing about them. Any photos anywhere?

Hi Scott
try looking on ebay UK site at DRUM & FLAG shop

Thank you 9th Hussar, I found them. The Lancers look like they might do for Franco Prussian too. Can you tell if the Dragoons and Hussars are wearing shakos and/or busbies?

I wonder how they are available in the UK on Ebay first.

Hi Scott

nice figures aint they - they should paint up well. The Light Dragoons have shakos - the hussars have busbys as you can just see the busby bag.

I am also looking at painting the Lancers as the British 16th Lancers who fought at the Battle of Aliwal in India in 1846. The 16th wore scarlet coatees and with white linen czapcka covers. My only flaw with these AIP sets is that the lance provided is not firm enough, so I always replace with a brown Timpo lance which is much firmer and can have a paper pennant attached to suit. If you check out the Plastic Warrior site Links page there is a guy called Michael Maughan who sells these, trading as Sword Models in Carlisle, England.

Drum & Flag are a professional outfit and have extensive stocks of figures. You should have a look at their other items for sale and the guy that runs it is a really nice chap.

"busby bag"

Thank you I see it now. I'm planning to use the lancers (unpainted) for my French Franco-Prussian war army. Most of the troops are Armies in Plastic conversions, some right out of the box such as the Blue WWI Germans and Zouaves w/o the muzzle-loading figure.

I usual replace stock lances on my figures with plastic rod and printed penons.

(I don't like Timpo Horses)

I wish AIP didn't include a bugler in the lancer set as after one set, you have a useless figure.

Hi Scott
yes the bugler will have to be converted to a sabre wielding figure where more than 1 exists per regiment, although I suppose if I manage to create the full charge of over 600 horsemen there would be more than 5 buglers - as they had several per regiment.
We have this charge as part of our folklore - most know about it even though they have no military interests generally. Its one of those events like the Titanic sinking or Edward VIII abdicating.

I called Armies-In-Plastics today (6/11) and ordered some 17th Lancers. They'll be sending out the flyers for the Charge figures soon.

Hi Scott

enjoy the figures - I will be picking mine up tomorrow from the post office depot - maybe I can post photos when they are painted, but this will take a few weeks as I give priority to my customers figures first.

I hope they do make some Russians and allied infantry:D. On the other hand, they didnt make any opponents for their rough riders or Russo-Japanese war:mad:

These hussars could also "pose" as French Napoleon III era Chasseurs.
