Ladies and Gents,

The newest edition of "WWII" magazine has a nice article by noted armor author Steve Zaloga about the myths and realities of US tanks on Omaha Beach on 6/6/1944. Some very good information there. A big plus is that "WWII" is available at most magazine counters in the USA.

Sounds like a good read Gary- can't beat WW2 magazine- it's chock full of great info

On a side note, Steve Zaloga (man alive- my boss's name is the same, just drop the Z and add a B)- anyway, he is going to be at Historicon in Lancaster this year. Should be a good lecture.

Those 58 tanks and some gutsy destroyer captains that risked their ships and their careers by closing almost to to the point of grounding (not good for a DD skipper's advancement!).

A well-written article IMHO.

Great article. I can't believe the coordination between the Army/Navy was so poor, what was it some 5000m from shore or something like that the one Army guy called for the launch of the DD tanks:eek:. Good Lord! That must have seemed like an ocean away from shore to those poor guys. Good to know our Navy buds covered our rear and picked up quite a few survivors at least.
