For a long running yearly show, I thought attendance was off a bit this year.

You guys in NY & Chicago are rockin!

Nice pics of Atlanta Show. Seems like a small crowd. I been in Chicago's Military Minature society (MMSI) for many years but I don't think I will renew this year. Live too far away to go to meetings ad Last two years did not go to their Oct. Show- after Sept. Toy Soldier Show I am all "soldiered" out to drive back two weeks later. John

Yes attendence was less then last year, strange it had been building every year for last 3 or so. There were only two dealers with King & Country, one was Brian Greenwood who had a really nice assortment, well presented. The other fellow I had never seen before, and he had limited inventory.

I can't wait to see the larger shows back up north.

Not much doing here in "Dixie"........their still busy fighting "the War"

I went on a tour of homes in Charlestown S.C. a few years ago. In every room the woman would say "those are original beams installed Be-Four-The-War"......Finally after about 4 or 5 rooms I asked her "What war are you referring to"?

"Why the Civil War of Course" she replied! There really know how to grab onto something and not let go. I finally discoverd how the South lost the war.

It was the dreaded 4 way stop intersections! On any given day traffic grinds to a halt as four intellectuials in pickup trucks face off at a four way stop.
They take out their lunches and sit until one of the signs falls down.

As someone who was born and raised in the north (well, the Pacific Northwest, that is), I don't share your view of southerners. I spent the month of October working as a Hurricane Katrina volunteer with the American Red Cross in Louisiana. For three of those weeks, I lived in a one room staff shelter with between 70 to 100 other volunteers sharing two toliets and two showers. The Methodist church congregation fed us every night and did our laundry for us. I also had the opportunity to travel throughout the area as a part of my job of openning and closing shelters and then working on a four man task force for the Operations Deputy Director of the ARC. I met many southerners and I found them to be the salt of the earth whether they be Parish Presidents or just ordinary folks like me. By the way, I didn't see all that many pick-up trucks.

Dear Mike, my comments were light-hearted, and since I have been down here for the last 30 years I think I have seen a bit more then you might have experienced in 30 days while assisting with the hurricane disaster. Of which I lived through two while in Florida.
The main point I was expressing is the southern fascination with the Civil War. While growing up in New Jersey, I never knew a person that used the civil war as an understood point of reference.

Dear Nijia,

Glad to hear that it was meant to be light-hearted. Although I can't match your 30 years in Florida, I did live in Virginia for three years. I even lived in Connecticut for three years, too. I guess my 33 years in SOUTHERN California don't really count either.

Well it sounds like you moved around a bit also! I hope you find a lovely place to spend your "golden Years"

I sold a business and moved to Florida to enjoy the sun back in 1976 took me
30 years to finally realize I missed good old New Jersey (Long Beach Island) so we are finally heading home shortly.

Actually, these are my golden years---I have been retired since 2000. Yes, I have moved around a bit. I left out 17 years in Oregon, 3 years in Italy (Rome), and one year in Northern California. I was also stationed in the army for one year each in Turkey and Germany, plus 7 months in a quasi foreign country, Massachusetts. The nice thing about being retired is that I get to revert back to being a child again (e.g., toy soldiers) and I don't care what anyone thinks about that.
