Looking into my crystal ball, AKA subscribers emails, I see some minor difference, re-release Romans and a chance to get a ^ pounder, jeep and crew together at a reduced price.

I will be getting an order in for some of those Romans I missed first time round !

Steve

I got the email in from Tom last night with all the new figures for August :)

Maybe he will post it here today ???

Likely, it usually appears the next day or sometimes within hours of the email of the new releases going out. Just depends if their website person is in, also remember this is their busy time each month and Blake mentions staff Summer holidays in the email.

In the meantime, Treefrog Treasures have photos them in their upcoming releases section.

Steve

I've just sent in my order as these new ones are on the Thomas Gunn website now.

Steve

Looked on Treefrog and is a catch up month, not a bad thing, will buy the 9th Legion figures, was thinking of the 6th Legion as well, but with just starting, have 9 decorative shields and 17 Lambda shields, Spartans may give a miss, but they do look good.

Would be interested to know more on the Archers? Are the different coloured helmets significant or is it artistic licence?

Still number 1 manufacturer for me, on quality, era and price.

Some nice Roman releases, but there is a ROM07C2, launching pilum wearing cloak, but I do not think there was a ROM07?

Sorry meant to put there is no ROM07C 9th Legion, my error, but I only collect the 9th Legion and I have not got a ROM07C.

Cheers

No, there wouldn't have been. The Ninth Legion issues didn't come out until later in the series. But for those missed out on some earlier issues and wanting particular poses, Legions its a good opportunity.

I missed out on the standing firing archers, sure the helmet is a bit different and I'd rather have uniformity.

But then as any Roman historian would say the name of authenticity things could last many years with a bit of repair now and then and the Romans being a pre industrial society. so while equipment could of been similar, being made in workshops through the empire, but I bet a local purchasing Centurion would know whether a helmet etc, came from workshop A, B, or C by the craftsman style. And maybe A's helmets were better made than B or C's and lasted longer even with the various changes in the style of Gallic Helmet types used by the Romans.

On TG and the 9th Legion, it was released later than the 30th and the traditional red shields, but ROM06C and ROM7C are the only two, I can see, that are missing, we have had the others? I do not think there was a ROM06 at all, but I could be wrong. I think ROM11C is the closest to ROM07C I can see from my collection?

On the historical accuracy I agree, it was a proto industrialised non fixed standard economy in many ways, from my reading this seems to be more with local forces and auxiliaries, whom would have adapted their uniform and armour for the region they served in and to reflect their original ethic status. But I do think it was standard in the Legions and also buildings, fortifications etc. I am regularly up at Hadrian’s Wall and Caerlion in Wales [only 30 minutes’ drive away] and from seeing the artefacts there the uniformity seems to have been with the Legions, obviously their armour, weapons and uniforms evolved and were adapted for their location and time of year, but the Legions were ‘Rome’ in the far flung parts of the empire and standards were kept. On the buildings and fortifications, David Breeze and Brian Dobson’s book Hadrian’s Wall is a must read book. I am hoping to get over to the Limes next year.

TG needs to make more Roman enemies. At this point they have made over 100 Romans (not including variations, i.e. different legions etc.) and yet they have only made 11 enemies?

I believe TG are currently developing Jewish Rebels. Which is great and one I'm looking forward too.
Personally, ever since I saw the TV mini series Masada, I've thought I'd like to see some Jewish rebels made.
I think TG will do well with them and appeal to a wider range of collectors than normally ancients attract, as Jewish collectors who might otherwise not really be interested in ancients, but are interested in the history and trials and tribulations Jewish people have had to endure over the centuries.
Might even boost sales of Romans for those wanting to do their own dioramas.

JJD have been making Gaulish warriors with the last one out this month. They will also be releasing Iceni Warriors shortly and some Germanic warriors with their trendy man bun's !

K&C have just released a few barbarians, Including that Ancient Briton Hero Caractacus ! Perhaps TG or one of the others will make a Boudicca. I'd like to see several, from stirring her people to rebellion, to action poses. Perhaps even another Chariot like the Victorian one in London !

Steve:

I think some Masada figures would be fantastic.

I do like K&C's Roman line as well as John's, especially the Roman enemies that both have made. However I do not mix manufacturers so I am hoping that TG make some enemies soon.

Jewish rebels would add another dimension for Roman collectors.....ambushes, siege of Jerusalem and Masada. I'm all in for these!

I'd like to see TG do a Jewish rebel holding up a Captured Roman Eagle. That'd be a cool figure !

Great idea for a figure!

I'd really like to see a Jewish rebel line, after all in many ways they were the start of what has become one of the most elite fighting forces in the world.
