Watched this the other night on PBS. Well worth it.
The above clip from the PBS broadcast [also on DVD] depicts
Saint-Gaudens' sculpture memorializing Colonel Robert G. Shaw
during the American Civil War. Col. Shaw was also depicted
in the film "The Glory"
The sculpture is a real diorama to say the least.
Saint-Gaudens is probably best known for designing the
American Double Gold Eagle $20 and $10 Indian Head
gold coins. Luckily my grandfather and, father [and me] were
hoarders, so I've got many of them. Saint-Gaudens designed the
coin in 1907 at the request of Pres. Theodore Roosevelt, but
the coins weren't minted until after his death starting in 1909
until 1933.
