I heard on the radio today that Underbelly will be showing on US TV this week. If it is I highly recommend it. If you like cops, crime, corruption, naughty bits, good story and good acting then well worth a look.

The first series of Underbelly was set in Melbourne and concerned a series of gangland murders. It is based on facts and well cast. It was banned in the state of Victoria as cases were still ongoing. Last year there was another murder related to it.

The second series involved events before series one and this is apparently being shown first in the USA. Aa brief outline is as follows :

The series' first prequel, Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities, revolves around the organized crime groups that stemmed from the Griffith-based dope trade. The series follows the lives of two infamous drug lords, "Aussie Bob" Trimbole and Terry "Mr Asia" Clark, portrayed by Roy Billing and Matthew Newton respectively.Filming took place in both Sydney and Melbourne until March 2009. Sydney locations Richmond, Bondi Beach and Warwick Farm were used to portray Griffith in the 1970s. Writers Peter Gawler and Greg Haddrick admitted that there was more nudity and sex than the original. The prequel premiered on February 9, 2009 to 2.5 million viewers, making it the highest rated non-sporting program in the history of Australian television ratings. The second prequel, titled Underbelly: The Golden Mile, is due to begin airing in 2010. Production began in 2009, and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
