The Aussies have arrived and while some are setting up their base, others are on patrol.

NICE SHOT, Steve. Like the framing with the Chinese gate. Is that from the SOHK series?

You known, I think I have a couple of those little Foo Dragons some place. Might work well in the Fall of Singapore dio… :rolleyes2:

Yep the Pagoda from the SOHK Larry. The gate behind is one of a number of photos of a Vietnamese Temple, in France off the internet.
Wooden Vietnamese Lions I painted off ebay and they do lend an Oriental flavour to a scene and I'm sure your own would the same to a Fall of Singapore dio.

Hi Steve, I have those SOHK pieces, did not occur to me I could use them in this era, but seeing your dio, of course they work. Well done, food for thought. Robin.

Added Value mate ! Being able to use bits and bobs in different era's, Just don't go trying to have that Tiger defend Hadrian's Wall against the Picks. But do have a Tiger passing by a piece of Roman Wall in Germany!

Hey Robin,
Inter-era mixing is one of the many great things when using the K&C series.
I have been picking up a few SOHK in anticipation of using them in a WWII Pacific scene, like the British defeat and surrender in Singapore.

I picked up the HK256 Tai Pan's house and the HK241 New Village Gateway. I hope to find a few more scenery items as well as a few figures.
The newer HK147M The Photographer looks promising as there are period photos of photographers taking pictures of General Percival surrendering and Gen. Yamashita talking with locals.

Good thought Larry, I have both the gateway and house, so starting to formulate something in my mind using these also. Robin.

Oh SKUNK CABBAGE … … now you are going to go and make your usual super incredible scenes and dioramas and beat me to it …. :redface2: Oh Cow Dung!

Okay … only joking my far away friend, I can't wait to see what you come up with.

There are a dozen (or more) K&C JN (Army) figures that would go real well with that dio.
Also I have a few of the EA-028 stretcher bearer sets that would really be nice and also go along with the British soldier with his hands up, surrendering.
[There are some period photos that show almost this exact scene.]

I was able to find a few old Del Prado British tropical figures (Soldiers of the world) that might be suitable enough to slide into the dio. ( I generally don't care to much for 100% accuracy .. just fun!

Let me know if you have other ideas, Robin.

Like it Steve. The hidden bases just make it a little more realistic. Robin.

Hi Steve,
I'm really enjoying watching the fun and creativity you are having with just our first 5 'Aussies in Vietnam'...Can't wait to see what you will create when the next batch of 'AiV' arrive later this year!
Best wishes and happy collecting,
Andy.

Thanks Andy, yep looking forward to more patrol figures too ! Like to see a figure with the Owen smg, on patrol or in combat pose along with
some more Aussies in combat poses too as this part of the Vietnam range evolves.

Steve,

sorry, but the OWEN SMG was obsolete by the time of the Vietnam War.
It was replaced in 1963 with the F1 SMG, but that wasn't popular with the diggers, who then chose to use the M16 as seen held by the radio operator in set VN30.

The OWEN developed and used extensively in the Pacific in WW2 and Korea.

Hi John

Okey dokey, read somewhere they were still used in Vietnam early on, but happy to be corrected. Read that Aussies didn't use any Brens in Vietnam only M60's, also that Stirling SMGs used by Australian SAS there so perhaps K&C would do a figure with one of them.

Steve

Yes,

the BREN and the .303 SMLE went out at the same time that the SLR and M60 both 7.65mm NATO round came in … not sure about the Stirling, but SAS used whatever they liked !

Ok, I wondered what they did in the Australian Army.
Though different in the British Army quite a few Bren guns were converted to 7.62mm, though I think they weren't for issue to Infantry. Only visual difference I think being the magazine not being so curved.
Fired both as well as GMPG's as a cadet in the mid seventies along with .303 and SLR's and finally got to fire an M16 at a gun store whilst on holiday in Las Vegas a few years ago ! {sm4}

Hi John.

Thought you might like to see this youtube:

look for the first guy off the plane as it seems that New Zealand Artillery took Owen smgs to Vietnam at least early on.

All Best

Back from patrol in Nui Dat the men head back to their tents to clean their weapons.

Guessing that's a 'long drop' for the big job, otherwise there are plenty of trees. You have another appropriate vista. Robin.

Hohoho ! and it's not even Christmas yet Robin ! {sm4} Bearing in mind it's a monitored forum.. Yep after all, Soldiers have to, like the rest of us !

Backdrop Photo off web of ATF camp at Nui Dat. P1double s tubes field for the use of, from another photo though B&W so can't be sure of colours, but though it would add detail as not seen one on forum before !
No doubt complete with a WD broad arrow and date.
