Hi,
Has anybody got any thoughts (or pictures) on how these figures fit together scale wise? I recently bought one of the K&C Poilu's and a wounded tommy set and they look like giants amongst the JJD figures. I know they're meant to be the same scale, but they do look to be slightly different in scale. All good figures, but as I've bought mainly JJD so far, if I do buy any K&C I need to be happy that they match seamlessly.

Hi Pete,
I don't have any of the Australian figures, so I can't speak to those sizes, but, like you, I have the Poilus from several different makers; JJD, KC, FL, ONWTC, TGM, and Del Prado. Of these, TGM, KC, and Del Prado are on the large size (1/28?). They go together well in terms of size and bulk. JJD and FL go together well and I believe they are 1/30. The ONWTC are the smallest at 1/32. The TGM, KC, and Del Prado are noticeably larger than the other 3 makes so a purest may not like the way they all look together. Due to space limitations I have all my makes displayed together but if I had room I would separate them, leaving JJD, FL, and ONWTC away from the larger figures. -- Al

Pete,

I have a few Aussie JJD and some K & C Aussies. The recent ones are basically copies of ones that K & C did several years ago; I presume they're the same sculpts but cannot swear to it. I can post a photo tomorrow if you'd like.

Thanks Brad, Al.
I would like to bulk out the figures I have, but as I have mainly JJD I want to make sure that any extras I get seamlessly fit in with the JJD figures. This isn't a criticism of different manufacturers, just a size thing. Any comparison pictures would be appreciated.

Thanks

Pete, it is a tough call and really hinges on how closely you want things to match up. Paint styles are different from one maker to another. Additionally, while I say that FL and JJD go together well, there is a very small difference in size/bulk between the two, with the FL being ever so slightly smaller in both height and bulk, just not enough to bother me. It is simply a personal preference. Seamless is hard to achieve once multiple manufacturers are in the mix. -- Al

I don't think the several companies don't go together because they are different. For me it's not an issue as I have several companies' figures mixed in together.

I will post some photos tomorrow.

As a big WW1 collector, TG & K&C go well together, JJ sort of stand alone while FL, Britains & ONTC fit together.
I definetly would not put TG & K&C with the others.

Pete,

Here are comparison photos. As you can see, the K & C looks a little bigger. However, the JJD soldier has a slight bend in his back so if you account for that, size wise they are the same.

In addition, as you can also see they go well together. However, I think this has to be determined on a case by case basis. For example, the K & C and JJD Poilus would not go well together. In my opinion, JJD have nailed the Polius, so much so that I won't purchase Poilus from any other company.

Earlier in this thread I had mentioned that I mix and match figures from all companies because -- well, I just like to do that, trying to create the overall WW I effect . Here are a couple of photos of my two (so far) shelves from one of my display cases. I used a flash because it's a dark room and not well lit enough.

In the first photo, in the foreground, are AeroArt figures on the left, and German Empire figures made for me by Beating Retreat. Behind them are a lot of the first WWI figures made by K & C, including the Staff Car, and behind them you see JJD figures. Like I said, a mix.

Here you see K & C figures on the left, with Uhlans in the back and JJD figures on the right. I will probably add in some of my K & C Aussie figures to the JJD ones. Not historically correct but I like the way it looks :wink2:

Thanks for taking the trouble to take and post pictures Brad. That's a nice collection you have there.

No problem Pete. Glad to help.

Thanks. I know I'm going to need a lot more space!

Most of my AeroArt figures are medieval (knights and samurai) but for some reason I really like the WW1 personalities as well, I think it must be the fuddy-duddy uniforms many of them have. :)

No problem for me to mix and match, love taking the best from each manufacturer and combining to make the best dio I can. We are so lucky at this point of time to have a number of outstanding makers to choose from. Good on the collectors who are comfortable to do the same. Robin.
