Hi guys,
Australia the movie just had its premiere here yesterday but I have not seen it yet.
Set in Northern Territory Australia during WWII when the Japanese launched many air attacks on Darwin. Saw two movie reviewers discussing it last night and the main point I noted was that one called it a "chick flick".
Would be intetrested to see forum members comments as they see it.
However Bond starts today so that will be my priority.
Regards
Brett

Seen Bond last night and well worth a visit:cool::cool: Hope the storms aren't affecting you

:DTotally want to go see it! Looks like one I might get tears in the eyes from. Seriously!

Can't wait to see it, your fellow collector,
Vick

I have still not seen it yet (my daughter works in a cinema but not around at the moment as she is at Schoolies so I can't get in for free yet).
However I saw Letterman "interviewing" Nicole Kidman which was a painful interview to watch. It made the TV news here in Oz. His interview was more about her husband. Maybe Letterman should have asked her husband to come on the show and the he could have asked him about the movie his wife is in.
A critic today commented that Russell Crowe and Kate Winslet would have been better cast.

Brett

I don't think i will se it until its out on DVD... With three young bubs its hard to get to the Movies now days :(.
I don't no why letterman felt the need to give her a hard time ?
I don't like the guy that much... and when his show comes on i switch channels.

I saw Australia this morning.

It went for 3 hours and I only checked my watch once. :D

It was a bit of a chick flick which seemed to have every Australian cliche in the book: the Outback, billabongs, drovers, Aboriginals, rum and beer swilling Crocodile Dundee types, pub brawls, man-eating crocodiles and of course kangaroos.

It was corny and cheesy. Even the beer they drunk in the film was called Kangaroo Bitter. Give me a break.

My girlfiend enjoyed it and I suppose it was bearable but I won't be adding it to my DVD collection. ;)

I'm interested too in this film , for the war scenes (are they worthy?), i think it's better a chick flick with some good war scene that a war film that turns in a chick flick (Pearl Harbour) ,this year i've seen Atonement and definitely is chick flick but what a great Dunkirk scene there is in this film!!!!5 minutes save all the movie !!!The director captured all the atmosphere of the beach..and the song during that scene is wonderful..If you haven't seen it...

Sorry cantinetozzo but the "war scenes" aren't that good.

There are scenes of Australian soldiers marching or in trucks towards the end of the film. You do see Japanese planes bombing the city of Darwin. There are a few Australians manning anti-aircraft guns as soldiers scatter everywhere.

On a tiny island nearby a small number of Japanese Imperial Army soldiers unsuccessfully hunt to kill survivors of an Aboriginal childrens mission.

Unfortunately that's pretty much it. No major or even minor air, naval or land battles. Just plenty of explosions and smoke.

Cheers
Pete

It seems to be that a lot of recent war movies have been "chick flicks".
English Patient, Atonement and now Australia. The marketing guys probably did some research and came up with an idea to combine audiences. You know attarct the boys and the girls to the same movie.

Since I started the thread I had to see it but it was a close thing as the wife was more interested in the new Rob Schneider prison movie. We were late and saw Australia instead.
I think The General summed it up pretty well. It was entertaining and more of a chick flick. The war was only a very small part of it.
Read in the paper that Baz Luhrman the Director will be getting 40% of his production costs back from the Aussie Govt (ie tax payers) due to some Australian film production incentive scheme. Can't say I agree with that when you are talking about not insignificant production costs on this movie. The Govt might want to cap the scheme so it helps the smaller productions. In these tough economic times the Govt should not be subsidising major movie productions.

Saw it this week and absolutely loved it. It's not a war movie though, it's more of a romantic film and very centered on the aboriginal lost generations... Now don't call me a chick just because I liked it...:D

I agree it was realy just a fun Western adventure type flick..but the last hour did drag out a bit.
but other then that i thought it was ok :)

I sat through this movie with my wife and she loved it.I thought it was a little over the top in Aussie slang and too much of a love love movie. Not one for me but she loved it and I sat through it with here as she always sits through war movies with me.Simmo.

We just saw Australia last night. 5/23/09 I'm guessing that it was meant to be a comic-book romantised story. The CGI added to the "legendary" look. I didn't think that there would be that much humor! Was there was supposed to be symbolism of the Drover, the Lady, and the Aboriginie as representatives of Australian culture? All in all pretty good entertainment. The ladies loved Hugh Jackman.

I thought it was a good entertaining movie but that it was a little drawn out in the second half.

I saw it.

It was okay.

Don't expect a "war" movie, if that's what you are looking for.

Good plot, well acted, good action, but, I kind of wish I had waited for the "free" version.

I don't think I would watch it twice, but it was okay.
