I am thinkning of collecting the AWI range since I really like this part of american history. If you collect these figures, how do you like them? I am gun shy about starting to collect another line of figures. I do have two prussians by FL.

I am proud to be the first to respond to your post. This line is not only my favorite for the obvious reason that I am a rev war buff, but the product alone is amazing!! So far I have 9 of the 20 militia figures that came out over the summer and I anticipate completing the set very soon.

You will not believe the high-end quality of the figures!! The sculpting, poses, color, detail........it's all first rate. You may not think it possible but the figures look better in person than they do online. (At least I think so).

I can't wait to dive in and start on the British set that is coming out in January. If you already own those 2 Prussian figures by FL, then you already know of their reputation first hand. The AWI figures I'm sure are right up there with all their products so you cannot go wrong in buying into this range.

As you have probably seen on the forum or by my profile pic, this series is my primary one for collecting. I have most of all of the AWI militia figures and I have to say, they are the best out there. Since you already have a couple of First Legion figures, you don't need any convincing about how thier paint and sculpting is superior. I have a couple side by side pics in one of my albums of some First Legion and some K & C militia. While I am not denegrating the K & C figures, it can help to see some of the differences in style if you are familiar with K & C's work.

What I will say is that you won't find a release of AWI militia that has more variety of dress or color. Every account of the militia talks about how varied thier clothing was and these figures portray that in the most accurate way. If this is important to you, then these are the right figures.

One other big consideration is how you want to display them and how much you want to invest in a new range. If you are wanting to display any battle during the conflict, these militia will obviously work great. And, if you are just going to start a range, now is a good time to jump into FL's AWI range. You won't have a lot of catching up to do and I think you will find the rate of new releases a little easier to keep up with than some other ranges.

If you would like some more pics, please let me know. I am not the best photographer, but I will give it a shot.

Although I don't collect these figures, I have been very impressed by them, for all the reasons mentioned by Rev War Buff and Fusilier, particularly the variety of clothing and poses, not to mention the detailing.

One thing I really like that First Legion does is concentrate on a theme so for instance they are focusing on the Battle of Bunker Hill and not moving about, at least initially, from battle to battle. This is also an attraction of their American Civil War range, focusing on Gettysburg.

I love these AWI figures and have a number of them. But if i had one wish if this line was to expand, would be to add some personality figures......General Knox would be a great example as he is present in no other line and physically as well as historically could add some eye catching interest to a display....especially if some artillery were to be included as complimentary eye candy.

ANyone else interested in personality figures...if so which ones??

Note: As an example, photo of a figure I modified a few years back to represent Knox in a vignette. (Base figure from the mid 1970's Phoenix Navy Admiral)

Yes. I would expect Continentals at some point. Awaiting arrival of my first 2 figures in this series.

Guys, thanks for the convincing input. I think I will get a couple after christmas. I think the detail from the pictures is the best I have seen anywhere. As far as personalities, I would like to see more of the other generals such as: Gates, Greene, Knox, Von Steuben, I would love to see FI do the Hessians.

Here is an off idea, would you gus like to see FI do the signing of the Dec of Ind?

We will have some Continentals at some point, hopefully a release in 2011. I think we will have a good variety of Continental units as this ranges grows.

I would certainly be interested in personality figures for the AWI range. The usual suspects would be welcome, but I like to think outside the box as well. Don't get me wrong, I would love a Washington, Greene, Knox, Layfayette Continental command set. But I also really like how First Legion has included in the militia release both Colonel Prescott and Dr. Warren, two lesser known names. They could certainly continue doing specific commanders like these and I would be happy.

Think something like Col. Haslet with his Delawares, Col. Hand with some Pennsylvanians, or Col. Williams and Lt. Col. Howard with some Marylanders down the road. There a lot of possibilities.
