Hi Damian,

Wow! You are correct, those are some cool looking figures! I may be in trouble now, for I love the historic period and the subject!

However, I am completely uninformed regarding Morgan Miniatures. Are you or any other forum member familiar with these figures? I would very much appreciate hearing any opinions regarding the quality of these figures.

There is an article on these on page 9 of the January 2008 edition of TS&MF and it appears there are 71 different natives and 46 Spaniards available. They are based on the conquest of the Aztec Empire from 1519 to 1521. It states that the figures are 60mm. Their website is www.morganminiatures.homestead.com

The St. Petersburg/aeroart folks also made a few nice aztec figures and Cortez. The sales were low though and they discontinued that line. One of the more amazing and well-written accounts in military history is "The History of the Conquest of Mexico" by William Prescott. I would strongly recommend it even if you have only a limited interest in the subject matter.

Hi Combat,

I am presently reading the Prescott book that you mention above. I wholeheartedly agree with your buttssment of this book. Prescott wrote an amazing account of Cortez and his exploits in Mexico. Seldom have I read such detailed descriptions of the social structure, the dress, the dwellings, the customs, the temples, the religious practices, etc. of the Aztecs. His descriptions of the countryside are also amazing.

He does an outstanding job of explaining the Spanish political intrigue that was occuring during the time period. It is truly an engaging and spellbinding story. I, too, recommend this book most highly. You won't be disappointed!

Yeah Doug, I am pretty sure he is serious on those prices. From what I have gathered, the artist who is hired to paint those, only paints a small run of each figure by request. Also, he is purportedly one of the elite, world class artists of toy soldiers and his pieces have won several international awards.

Me, no, I cannot justify that kind of expenditure but hey, to each his own.
 
Chris: Have you seen the Barzo playset he released a few years ago on this subject? He had the Temple and plenty of figures and accessories. I don't know if he has any left. I am sure it would look neat painted. Leadmen

No sir, I do not recall seeing those sets. That's a shame, I bet they were excellent.

looks like you were right- I surfed evilbay last night and there were those same figs Kolobob has. The starting bid is $125!!

Looks like this collection can begin- just gotta stay vigilant looking for the pieces.

Hey NP-

John is correct. I like to look of them, I think they are a good product for the money. I am going to tool around with their Tripoli buildings for my modern Iraq/Afghan stuff. I don't get too hung up with scales- I am just not that discerning but for those of you who might be, these may not be up your alley.

BTW- Sorry you missed the KC Chaffee pics the other day- it was on their website- www.kingandcountry.com It seems like the pic was only up for the day as I think they switched back to the elephant.

Thanks, Chris. We think alike. I was looking at the Tripoli buildings and some walls to complete my oasis enclosures (w/ my Department 56 stuff). Those building looks similar to the scene in the movie "Patton"
