Yo Troopers, got the last of my main Characters from the Battle Balaklava Sir Colin Cambell, the five all made for me by "Clash of Arms" really pleased with them they go well with my Britains Light Brigade sets. HEID dont tell any of the clan back home I have a Cambell in the Collection will get what William Wallace got Hung, Drawn, and Quarted and exciled as well lol. The five main characters from left to right are, Lord Raglan, Lord Lucan, Lord Cardigan, Billy Britain Trumpeter (17th Lancers) & Sir Colin Cambell. Just waiting for the 93rd Highlanders from the USA, then let the battle commence.

Prosit!

Don't worry Bernard - your deep, dark secret is safe.
BTW, Rob Roy MacGregor called himself Campbell - cos the entire MacGregor Clan was proscribed by James VI and they weren't allowed (on pain of death) to use their own surname...!!!

PS. The Baron is quite right, you need Scarlett (and I don't mean Vivian Leigh)...:D:D:p

Cheers
H

Yo Brad, your right about James Yorke Scarlett, you think Britains would have put him in the Heavy Brigade set instead of a Scots Greys officer. He was colonel of the 5th Dragoons at Balaklava, so will have to get him made by RP World Models then I can get box as well. This is the only photo I can find of him.
Bernard.

Maybe the confusion is from what is noted at the end of Tennyson's "The Charge of the Heavy Brigade at Balacalava":

"Note.–The ‘three hundred’ of the ‘Heavy Brigade’ who made
this famous charge were the Scots Greys and the 2d squadron
of Inniskillens; the remainder of the ‘Heavy Brigade’ subsequently
dashing up to their support.
The ‘three’ were Scarlett’s aide-de-camp, Elliot, and the trumpeter,
and Shegog the orderly, who had been close behind him."

Hi, Bernard!

So are these figures that RP Models makes for you as special commissions? The work is very good, from the sculpt, to the quality of the paintwork.

Prost!

I have bought a few pieces from Clash of Arms..I love his wagons. Bernard, are these from Dorset castings? Thanks,Michael

I would have liked to see the Britans figure of Capt. Nolan falling wounded. He was one of the very first killed during the charge.

Frontline did a version of Capt. Nolan some years ago. He was falling wounded and I always liked it. They also did Campbell. I have that figure stash away somewhere. The only problem with the Frontline figures is that they are too big. I would say about 1/30 scale.

On a side note, anyone read "Hell Riders" by Terry Brighton. I'm currently reading it and am about a third of the way through. The way things were so screwed up between Lucan & Cardigan it's no wonder what happened at Balaclava. Those poor soldiers! :(

Chuck

The frontline versions are great, if you seprate them from your other troops- they are big. Bernard has some nice troops:):):):)

May I draw your attention to the Return from the Charge series of figures made by ATS. Among the general wreckage of the Light Brigade are Captain Nolan, Cardigan, Captain Morris and the regimental butcher Trooper Vahey.
They can all be seen on their website http://www.ats-uk.net which is well worth a look.

Those are nice looking. Boy every time you think you have seen it all, something else good shows up.:D:rolleyes:

YO Trooper, Trooper lol, had a look they seem nice but more for the Diorama guys, and as we all know just hate horses on plates, imagine trying to do 5 Regiments charging down the valley with horses on plates, would weigh more than the Centurion Tank lol, but they dont look right ok for a Dio if you have space.
Bernard.

When I looked at the site I thought the Crimean sets were nice but Bernard would object to the "plates"......................Is there some psychological aversion to plates ? I recall the original Cardigan had a problem with brown bottles, but plates ?

I have been eyeing the Guards roll call figures from ATS for some time. I've owned a few of his figures and they are quite nice. Very comparable to LL. The sculpting is very nicely done on these.

Yo Trooper lol, ok brown bottles is one thing, but I live in the country and the Irish just love their horses there are hundreds around our village, and do you know what, when I am driving around and look in the fields DONT see any horses that have fallen over because they dont have a plate to stand on lol, think to myself HEY Bern these horses over here can stand up on their own four legs amazing. Would just love to see a photo off anyone who has done the Light Brigade in full Charge down the valley with all the horses on plates, just love a laugh to start the day off. Quote for Damian.

I have to agree with Bernard -- there's just something about a cavalry figure on a plate that turns me off. I think its so much more asthetically pleasing not to have a plate -- even though I don't think twice about the little plates for the infantry figures.
