I'm looking to get some of Barzo's Indians. I'm mainly thinking about the Hurons, Shawnee and the new Cherokee's. Which are the best? I got a set of the Highlanders and frankly they were too thin and don't look so good alongside other figures. Are Barzo's Indians a little stouter?

I have some of all the early sets of "Last Of The Mohicans" figures. The studier figures with warclubs are OK. Some figures armed with muskets are very thin and the weapons too bendable. Some muskets are poorly defined especially the loading figure. The "Roger's Rangers Indians" are example of being too thin.

The newer sets of western Indians for the Lewis and Clark and Boonesboro sets look better. The Indian priming his musket has a badly molded weapon.

I have seen the Highlanders and didn't get them as there aren't enough figures to form a unit of men loading and firing. Most are "characters."

I can't see painting the thin figures when the weapons are going to bend and droop. Folks will pick that right out in a display.

Thanks for that Scott. I think the order they were made was Hurons, Shawnee, Blackfeet, so if these last were generally Ok it bodes well for the new Cherokee. I think Barzo has been making his figures a bit fuller of late. I have the Robin Hood ones and I really like the way they are built.

The Shawnee are very good figures, as well as the new Cherokee... the Blackfeet are also - but are closer to 60mm size, while the others are 54mm.. Please remember - that if you have bendy weapons - the hot water treatment straightens them right out.

Hope this helps,

Jim

So the Blackfoot are a little bigger then? I think I was leaning more towards the other two, so it sounds like they'll be compatable.

I have the Airfix set and the CTS Sioux, both are done in pretty much the same red/brown and are quite compatable. I imagine the TSSD Indians will be a tad bigger though, so it remains to be seen whether they'll all work together.

Another Indian set I've got is the Gun-Ho Apaches. They're all dismounted and aside from a poorly sculpted/ sized arm or two they're ok. I'm a little surprised that no American maker ever did Apaches in plastic (as far as I know).

Actually having another look at Barzo's site it appears he has different sets of Indians for his Rogers Rangers and Davy Crocket series. They don't appear to copies of the others and these do appear to be of slighter build. Neither is in stock at this time.

Check his website from time to time as he is trying to get a lot of items restocked. If you're interested, he also makes a nice Woodland Indians long house and wigwam.

Yes, I saw those too. His canoe guys also look great. He's really done a lot in terms of representing Native Americans.

I wonder what his next project will be?

On Apaches, Replicants have done five I think, over 2 sets. But they are British as was Timpo, with their superb swoppets (sigh, how I wish they'd lived on to further that range...).

I see on the TSSD site that 'Waterloo 1915' of Italy are going to do mounted Sioux, apparently to fit in with the TSSD range.
