I used to be but then started just focusing on Mets but even that became a pain because there were so many companies and different subsets, etc. that I gave it up. If I could sell it I would but I don't think there's much of a market out there.

I know Gary (the police officer from St. Louis) had a big collection and sold it to fund his K & C purchases.

Do you have the famous Billy Ripken card? I still have one or two of those.

HI JAZZEUM, I DO HAVE A TOPPS BILLY RIPKEN BUT I DONT HAVE THE ONE WITH THE FAMOUS BAT HANDLE INCIDENT, ACTUALLY THERE IS MONEY TO BE MADE IN ALOT OF ROOKIE CARDS IF YOU FOLLOW THE CARD CIRCUIT WHICH I DONT, BUT THE CARD INDUSTRY DEFINITLY HAS GOTTEN BIGGER, I JUST DECIDED TO STAY WITH TOPPS AND GIVE UP ON ALOT OF THE SUBSETS OR SPECIALITY CARDS UNLESS I FOUND THEM AT A DECENT PRICE,BUT I DO MISS THAT TOPPS BUBBLE GUM SMELL OF THE CARDS BACK IN THE GOOD OL DAYS :)..SAMMY

Hi Sammy,

I too have a bunch of cards. I began picking them up in the late 60s and now have a lot of my favorite team, The Yankees. I go back to 48 with a couple of them. Mainly Topps too just because there are too many other makers to keep track of.

My wife is a big Baltimore Fan so I have a rather large collection of Ripkens I also have some nice Billys but not the card of fame. Which rookie for Cal do you have? I have been looking for one of his minor league issues but they command a hefty price.

All the best

Dave

I'm with you guys, I focused on Topps, because there were just too many printers to collect all of them. I used to buy the year sets, but stopped a while ago.

Apart from cards I got as a kid, in bubble gum packs, I have a collection of Phillies from the mid-80s through the 93 team. The 80's players comprise my Phillies Hall of Shame. I think the seasons from '84 through '92 are among the worst in the club's history, right up there with the '30's-'40s, and the stretch from 1951 through 1964 to the 70's, when they put together the team that would eventually go to the Series in '80. I mean, who remembers Porfirio Altamirano (pitcher)? Dark times, indeed.

Prost!
Brad

HI DAVE, I HAVE CAL RIPKENS TOPPS 82 ROOKIE CARD WITH BOB BONNER AND JEFF SCHNIDER, TWO OTHER ROOKIES ON THE SAME CARD THAT DIDN'T FAIR AS WELL AS CAL DID,BUT YES HIS MINOR LEAGUE CARD IS A HARD ONE TO FIND IN DECENT SHAPE...SAMMY

My buddy Brad is correct. I had a huge baseball & hockey card collection but sold them about 6 years ago to fund my K&C addiction.
I was lucky I had kept mine from when I was a kid growing up in the 50,s, early 60,s.
When I finally started selling them off I had every Topps complete set from 1953 to 1993 missing but 2 cards, the 53 Mays and the 63 Rose rookie card. I also had Topps 52 set 1 thru 310, not the high numbers.
Also had most of the Bowman sets 48 thru 55.
I still have my Topps 52 thru 54 and Bowmans 48 thru 53. Just can,t part with those.
I will say when I was really into it I thought that there is ABSOLUTELY no way I could ever sell my cards, so there is truth to the fact, never say never.
Towards the end it got so that there was just way to much stuff being produced, it just overwhelmed the hobby.
I timed getting into both my hobbies, card collecting and K&C , just at the right time. Got back into cards in 1978 when you could buy them for pennies, example a mint Nolan Ryan rookie card I bought for $5, and had to stop and think if I should really spend $5 on one card.
Got into K&C in 2002 when dealers still had at regular retail all the early sets.
The only sports related thing I collect now are the McFarlane Hockey figures.
Gary
