Battle for KHOLM 9 January (1 Viewer)

Kampfgruupe Scherer was under heavy attack from the Soviet 3rd Shock Army in KHOLM over several weeks. Suffering from limited ammunitions and supplies. Kampfgruupe Scherer attempt to survive another night in KHOLM when the Russian attack came once more as the Red army tried to dislodge the Germans.

The Russians came crashing from the tree lines with screams of hoorah as the Germans scrambled to meet the attack. It is going to be a long night.




On the German left flank, the Russians had overrun the command post in a determined attack and now threaten the German left.

Some of the Germans surrender while the ones that resisted were promptly gunned down by the Russian Burp guns. A Russian raise the Russian Flag over the captured command post to rally more men into the breach.





One of the German on the left flank scream for reinforcements as he realize that the Russians are threatening their leftmost flank. Two Germans hurried over upon the warning in an attempt to stem the Russian attack on the left.
One German lay dead through a low window.



Meanwhile German MG34 is already firing at the Russians coming in from the front. One Russian soldier dropped from a burst of the German MG34. If the Russian attack fails, the injured Russian is doom to die.

The Germans fought back at the tide of Russian soldiers, the fight is frantic and there is no room for errors and certainly very few prisoners is expected to be taken. It was an life and death situation in such conflicts on the Eastern front.




The Russians threw their men forward, desperate to overrun the Germans in one swoop. One German soldier attempted to crept up to lob a grenade into the advancing Russians but was mowed down by a Russian.



A Russian Platoon leader waved his men forward, while a NKVD officer watched the attack nearby. No hesitation is expected of a Russian soldier. You are either dead at the front or mowed down from the back by your own.



The Russian Armored car was called in for the attack too. The distant rumblings of T-34 tanks coming up as reinforcements can be heard. They will be here any moment now.





Female Russians are thrown into this offensive too and here a Russian soldier was pointing out targets to a Russian sniper. It is going to be dangerous for the Germans if they should show their heads through the windows.

Theodor Scherer earned his Knight Cross with Oak Leaves in Cholm. He was trapped together with over 5000 men by a much larger Soviet force.Despite over 2000 Soviet assaults they held out until relieved in May1942. Only 1200 men remained fit for duty

That wounded Russian is one of the ugliest sculpt IMHO. Unfortunately I had to buy it since I pre ordered it. What were they thinking when they made this figure?
