In Mobile AL there is a park/museum that has the USS Alabama along with tanks/planes/sub, etc. and is a great place to visit if you are passing through. The battleship itself is an amazing experience to be able to go on board and ramble through all the parts of the ship that are showcased. In the park are multiple planes, tanks, guns and memorials to see. There is also a WWII sub the USS Drum that you can go on and have a look. I have been many times over the years and still like to stop by when passing through Mobile. Here are just a few photos of a few years ago when my wife and I visited.

Duke mate,

Some great photos there cobber. Thanks for sharing. You and Cynthia don't look a day older than when Jen and I met you two at the Texas Show in San Antonio in 2013. I still remember having breakfast with you guys and young Tom. I am guessing he would be about 16 or 17 by now.

Always enjoy the photos you post. Stay safe good buddy.

Cheers Howard

Thanks Howard. And I too remember our meeting in San Antonio and much enjoyed visiting with you and Jen. These photos are from a few years ago but Cynthia still looks the same now (she doesn't seem to age), but I definitely can tell I'm older. :smile2: Our son is now 21 believe it or not. Hard to believe. Time keeps moving on. Tell Jen hello from us here in Georgia.
Take care friend.

I visited the USS Alabama when it was all by itself, back in the 60's when it was the lone attraction. I remember the overwhelming size of everything. I loved the 20mm guns and spent quite some time swinging them around on their mounts, shooting down all sorts of Kamikaze attackers. It is a very impressive vessel. -- Al

Hello Al. I guess the park has changed much since the 60's with all the new planes/tanks/etc. I also pretended to be shooting down Kamikaze attackers on one of my visits there.

Yes, the park has changed a great deal. I would love to get back down to Mobile but all the family ties that made the first visit practical, are long gone (Grandma and Grandpa, Aunts and Uncles, etc.). The 'new' park looks magnificent. -- Al

If you do make it back down that way, you should also visit the National Naval Air Museum at Pensacola FL. It is awesome.

Duke, if I ever get to Pensacola, they'll never get me out. I LOVE Naval Air history, especially the 30's (Yellow wings) and 40's (Wildcat and Dauntless). I would be in Hog Heaven. -- Al

Al, to give you just a small sample of the Naval Air Museum, here are a few photos from one of my many visits

Thanks for the post, Duke. It does make my point, they would never get me out of the place. It certainly looks like my idea of heaven...Grumman, Boeing, and more, oh my. ^&grin -- Al

Maybe it's a "bucket list" place for you? I highly recommend. I was trying to find some more pictures of some of my trips there but can't locate them at the moment. Here is a Helldiver that's from this same batch of photos.
