Though its hard to beat the value you get in your local dvd shop Harry :D
Got a good box set in Shenzen :D, BBC History of World War II, much more indepth than the World at War from what I've seen so far (30 hours long)

You're certainly correct there RH....:D:D:D:D
I got my set of BBC History of WWII in Dubai. Its brilliant but its composed of a few different programs cobbled together. WAW is much more integrated IMO. But hey, they are both great collections.

The WAW is brilliant , but what I like so far about the Hx of WWII set (Have watched so far Nazi's a warning from history and started When Hitler fought Stalin) is that most of the footage is in colour and they have incredible frank interviews with veterns from both sides ,Russian NKVD & soldiers, German staff officers and soldiers, all trying to justifying their mindsets at the time with conviction. The ideology seemed to be still ingrained after all these years on both sides. What was visited on the civilians on the eastern front, caught in the middle was appalling. Figure they gave was 13 million dead.
Hard to beat the BBC when it comes to documentaries:)

I haven't seen the World at War in years (or maybe ever, it's been that long) but I don't think the BBC tried to give that integrated feeling. It was more episodic, focusing on different themes. I think some were very good, others brilliant and a couple were ok (the second one looking at certain countries before the war and there was one that was a docudrama with Monty, Ike, etc. that was not as good as the D Day one or the Dunkirk one) but overall it was great. I do need to find the WAW.

Brad,
Aren't you referring to the BBC History of WWII set here as opposed the the World At War? its been a while since I watched it too. Wasn't the docudrama you're talking about the one where Monty, Ike, etc. were played not very well, by actors who looked nothing like the people they were supposed to portray? I also must dig it out and have another look when I get home.
If I remember right, the docudrama about Dunkirk was very well done.

The World at War was made by ITV & not the BBC
Got my set free from the Daily Mail last year :D

Fraid it was Harry...got mine that way too!

Jeff

Aaaaah - but did you have to read the Mail as well?
Actually, I like the Daily Mail, but oversea's editions of Brit newspapers don't have the freebies or the glossy supplements. :(:(
At the moment, its looking like home around 21st January. There are plans forming for new SOHK displays in the Diorama section. I'll keep you posted.

Harry

I just look at the pictures :D

So only 2 more weeks to go then? Looking forward to more of the SOHK displays.

I'm afraid I wasn't clear but I was talking about the BBC's History of WW II, which had that episode with Ike and Monty, where Monty tries to bull Eisenhower and Monty's Chief of Staff Freddie d'Guingnand (not sure I got the spelling right) tells him he better back down.

I think we mix thing here. What I meant was the BBC World at War broadcast in 1973. Then we have BBC History of World War II where you find the Episode The Nazis a warning of History, The Wild East etc…

Cheers:)

Rod,
The confusion arose because to differentiate between them it would be better to refer to them as;

ITV World At War - which is the picture you have posted
and
BBC History of WWII

It doesn't have Sir Lawrence Olivier narrating though.

I have just picked up today from WHSmith's a DVD titled 'WW2 The Complete History Of World War Two' for only £2. I have not seen this before so will let you know what it is like.
