Anyone familier with the book "Beersheba: A Journey Through Australia's Forgotten War" by Daley? Obviously, this is the WW1 battle. It looks really interesting to me but I would like opinions before dropping $28 on a softcover book. Thanks in advance. -- Al

Al mate,
I have that book in my library of Australian Lighthorse. A reasonable book, photos are very good but IMHO the writer Paul Daley who has many awards for Political Journalism, does not write well in a Military sense.
The book was published in Melboure in 2009 and was not a big seller.
To sum up, I have read it but to me it is not one of those books that you just can't put down. There are better ones on Beersheeba.
My wife bought me a new book for Christmas (and I haven't had time to read it yet) only just released "Light Horse - A History of Australia's Mounted Arm" by Jean Bou. It had a good review by Lt.Gen. Ken Gillespie, Chief of Army.
Hope this helps cobber.
Cheers Howard

It is a great help and many thanks for the info. I used to have a modest collection of Lighthorse histories in my WW1 library before I dismantled it (financial reasons). Those histories can be sometimes be found over here but they are rare and expensive. Some of the things I regret selling were my WW1 Australian and New Zealand histories. I had the complete Bean set and all the NZ official histories, too.:( So it goes. Thanks again Howard. -- Al
