Belgian toy soldier stores?? (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,
I will be visiting Belgium this weekend (Christmas markets with the better half) and was wondering if anyone knew of any toy soldier stores selling K&C etc in Brussels or around about (I like to surprise her)?

I also hope to get down to Waterloo as well if I have time.
I want to see how the Hougoumont redevelopment is progressing.
I have never seen the battlefield in winter and with the possibility of snow forecast this weekend I have got to see it.

Then next week the London Toy soldier gig and later that evening the British Military tournament at Earls Court. Fantastic!

Am I a lucky boy or what?

Dear Paul;

There are not many shops in Belgium where you can find K&C. I can recommend "le Royaume du Soldat" (Surf to the website) in Marcinelle. It's not in the City of Brussels. It's a small town, not so far away.
By the way: snowbording from the top of the "Lion" is in Waterloo not allowed!

Do make a trip to the Lion Mound - well-worth it for Waterloo aficionados.

Look out for the enormous Panorama painting by Louis Dumoulin (and with sound animation in the background) depicting a key moment in the battle at the Visitor Centre. The French Cuiraissiers and Polish Lancers were given prominent exposure...Napoleon surrounded by his staff... and Ney leading the charge bare-headed, too. My favourite section is the Cuiraissers engaging a British RHA battery

There are 3 authorized distibutors of King and Country in Belgium
There is one in Waterloo, Avenue des Chasseurs,41, Waterloo
one in Marcinelle and one in De Panne. I know the shops in De Panne and Marcinelle, both are well stocked.
If you have time and depending on the way you travel( ideal would be by car and the Chunnel) I would recommend the one in De Panne.It is a seaside resort where you can enjoy not only the shop but also the local famous delicacies :Tomates crevettes or croquette crevettes.

Thanks for the response. Yes I have been there before but I wanted to see it in the winter. But no luck this time. I ran out of time due to the French port controllers strike at Calais. I lost a day waiting for the ferry to evetually dock and just ran out of time to re-visit Waterloo. I'm going back in Feb though so I'll have another chance.

Thanks for the valuable info re K&C Belgian dealers and shops. Unfortunately I had already left and didn't see your message until I returned.
I'm going again in Feb so I will check them out then.

I tried one Belgian delicacy while I was there and that was a beer called Waterloo 1815. Fantastic stuff.

I'll have to agree with you about the beer.... my daughter bought me a couple of bottles here in OZ for Father's Day and I was most impressed with the Dark Beer ....very rich and lucious.....

I loved the label with the Scots Greys charging the French. I have kept a bottle and I'm planning on taking some pictures featurinig my newly aquired Scots Greys either side of the bottle and show it on the Forum soon.

That wasn't the only good beer I 'sampled' when in Belgium this year. Bruges had a lot, but Michel (Mardasson) of Alma Figures took us to an Abbey in the Ardennes and we tried thier Trappist Beer.... very Yummy

I do'nt want to discourage you, but you only sampled a few of the odd 400 special regional beers we have. In Bruges you were only a few miles away from the abbey of Westmalle. Elected and selected as the best beer in the world.You can only buy it in the abbey itself.You have to first phone your order in and give your name and licence plate number and only allowed one crate per car. Don't send your friend to collect your order.If the licence plate does not match , NO BEER

Have to say that the Beer in the region around Brugge is amazing! I have some on hand for special guests. I will have to hit Waterloo with the kids in the springtime, my wife will want to go see the flowers so we'll be in the area. Thanks also for the tip on the shops so I will have to try and hit one or two when we go back.

That sounds like a great idea for a display John.
I bought a stoneware cup made especially for the beer. It has "Waterloo 1815" pressed into the cup. I have displayed it beside my bust of old Nappy. That's when I haven't got it filled with the beer I came back with.
We had better stop talking about beer on here or we may get some flak.
