Just saw the preview for this movie opening soon.

Only actor in it I recognise is Morgan Freeman.

Looks interesting but hard to beat Charlton Heston's role although this one will have advantage of special effects.

Plenty of other good movies coming so not sure if I will see this in cinema.

I know it's not even filmed yet, but I don't think I'll make any effort to see it. The '59 film is just about perfect, and doesn't need remaking, in my opinion. Maybe in the future, if I decide to get cable again, and it happens to be on, maybe then I'll watch it. But I'm just not much interested but very much skeptical of remakes.

Prost!

There has been a trend recently of openly hostile to organized religion, if not fully atheist, people in Hollywood taking on Biblical subjects. I am glad this does not appear to be that. It is a free country (for now) but it is disappointing to see stories and subjects that are personally meaningful to me from my childhood and not recognize them or even find them offensive like the recent Moses flick.

I am going to give a try. I do love the original, but have not seen it in a long enough time that it might not conflict too much with this one.

The original Ben Hur is one of my favorite movies. The acting, settings and action are superb, especially considering the technology of the day.
The cast was incredible from Charleston Heston to Stephen Boyd, Jack Hawkins and Sam Jaffe (Gunga Din) just perfect.
I am not a fan of "religious" movies but I can see how this film would have moved those with similar beliefs. I was more impressed with the historical context and
sentiment towards the oppressive Roman Empire. I still think the movie would resonate as long as you are not a religious or historical purist.

That looks truly awful. Almost as bad as the upcoming remake of The Magnificent Seven. Just terrible, contrived...ugh. Morgan Freeman was a good actor but he has been overexposed and appeared in too many terrible movies. I just saw Samuel Jackson in an awful movie called Cell. Why do these guys take such awful roles? They can't need the money that bad. Westworld doesn't look bad though. I saw the ad on HBO and wasn't sure if it is a movie or TV show. Probably the latter.

I'll see it. IMAX for no other reason. I hope Morgan Freeman is wearing a wig. He looks like he needs
fumigated.

Bombs away. Ben Hur only made $10 million on opening weekend. That puts them $90 million in the hole.

Yes, it didn't do well, but it opened in 1,000 less theaters than normal. Widest*Release is *4,255 theaters. Ben-Hur only opened
in 3,084 theaters. Also, the foreign take was $10,700,000. Add to domestic take of*$11,350,000 worldwide take is $22,050,000.
Not having any block busting stars didn't help. It will gross its budget, plus with DVD sales and television/streaming rights in the end.

In other news the Titanic almost made it to New York. That is a wildly optimistic take on this dud. It does confirm one Hollywood mantra: "There is no limit to the number of people who will not buy tickets to something they don't want to see."

The Moses one was way worse.
Try the Pureflix company for wholesome religious films https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pure_Flix_Entertainment

The Titanic didn't have to deal with an openly biased Press in 1912. Some of the reports were openly hostile. ABC in particular.
American Sniper and 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi proved the Press wasn't quite believable. I haven't seen it yet,
but I never attribute much credence to the Press, critics or some basement based Blogger.

As an aside, the Titanic was 963 miles from New York. Anything over halfway is "almost."

Yes optimistic, but then I have a bit of knowledge concerning the Industry.

I'm really going to have to learn not to read you posts with a mouth full of water or any other drink for that matter...............:wink2:

I'll never understand why Hollywood decides to do remakes on classic films that should just be left alone....................have they really run out of movie ideas and have to rehash old movies?

I don't it.....................

Saw it, really wanted the critics to be wrong about this but there not, if anything they were merciful. It definately made me long for the original and I'm going to watch it again with a new appreciation for what a great movie it was....

Not too bad, but will not want the DVD. Worth a watch if you like this era, has made me want to revisit my LOJ series and do some more displays. Robin.
