The Bent-Wing Bird F4U Corsair arrived today and boy, it looks good. Also, the features of Pappy Boyington figure bears a close resemblance to his photos.

One happy man I gather. I have my nose pressed against the window waiting for the Post to arrive .... AND MY CORSAIR.
Next will be some more AF figures.

Looks nice, perhaps time to press against my window waiting for the post van. ^&grin, Robin.

Nice looking plane Chris. I'm curious as to how much it weighs. I used to own the original one they did from the early 2000s and that was a very heavy plane!

Thanks for the photos Chris! Great pickup. I got a notice today saying mine has started on its way too!

I'm not a huge fan of the War in the Pacific, but this is a nice bird. The figure looks very good as well. Are you planning a diorama with this plane, Chris?

Hi WO,

Right now, my collections are all in boxes and all within a "man-room", with my record vinyls. Lack of space. My better half gets upset, so it is in a isolated room and you can guess why. My plan is to do away with an 6 feet aquarium tank in my dinning area by the end of 2016 and get a diorama in its place. It is likely to be a "D Day" or BoB diorama since it will be able to showcase more of K&C stuff.

For the Pacific, I have most of the better portion of IWJ series. However, I think K&C will be releasing more Japanese/Pacific war stuff. We probably have to see where that leads. Whether it will be a jungle warfare in South Asia between British/Malay/Chinese/Aussie versus Japanese, or the Pacific islands between the US and Japanese.

Brad, I already kept it back into its box. My guess is it is probably like the ME262 in terms of weight. Not as heavy as the Typhoon. And this is just from feel....

Completely understand - sound like you've got a nice plan though.

Not to get too much off topic, but this is my largest dio. It was originally a piece of furniture that I purchased as a DVD stand. Quickly got overran by K&C! I had planned to cover the top with an acrylic box.

I have some shelves in another room as well (sort of an invasion).;)

The F4U looks great and so does the figure. Amazing that they had to design the gull wing in order to give clearance to the huge prop driven by a 2000 HP Radial. Fastest warbird in the Navy 417 MPH!

Think it F4U-4: 446 mph @ 26,200 ft.^&confuse

VMF 214 was comanded by Boyington from 9-1943 to 1-1944 and flew F4U-1a's. Boyington was shot down in 1-1944 and captured by a Japanese Submarine and held as a POW until after the Japanese surrender. The F4U-4 was used in Korea. I presume K&C was making a model of the plane Boyington flew in WWII. Boyington did not fly in the Korean conflict.

I'm only pointing out that the F4U-4 was the faster after you came out with the statement that the F4UA was the fastest in the navy which is not correct

I was refering to the F4U-1 which was what Boyington flew and K&C modeled and which at the time Boyington was flying it. was the fastest US navel aircraft. Granted the F4U-4 was faster than the F4U-1; however when it was flying so was the Panther; which was than the fastest US navel aircraft. The F4U-4 was a ground attack aircraft during the Korean conflict. Air to air combat was mostly conducted by jet aircraft; like the Meteor, Panther and Sabre.

The F4U-4 saw action at the end of WW2 in the Far East long before the Panther saw service !

What is the make of the car? I have looked high and low for a late 1930s-1943ish diecast German car. I can not find anything suitable even in 1/32 scale.

Wayne posted some excellent photos of a Franklin Mint 1/24 Mercedes 500k with K&C Waffen SS figures in a diorama. The post was on the General Matte Discussion thread. The title was 60MM figures with 1/24 Panzers on page 3 of the thread today. Several nice 1930s European cars in photos as well as Panzers. Check Ebay for 1/24 Diecast vehicles and you will find many period FM pieces also Jeeps, Kubelwagen, Schwimmenwagen, and M3 Halftracks by Gonio/Kaden made of Tinplate under 1/24 Military Vehicles. I have a Gonio M3 Halftrack inbound from the Czech Republic. Wonderful model with engine, opening hood and doors. A .50 and .30 machine gun $103.00 free shipping. Take a look and let me know if you find what you are looking for.

I had a look at the Gonio - Kaden models and they do look nice although apparently the company went belly up and they are no longer made. A review on ebay also listed this comment:

"if not kept dry the paint can flake, and corrosion can be found in the die cast, especially in the wheels. Rubber tracks on the half tracks become brittle with age... The half track has working suspension. All the models have steering that works"

The rubber tracks becoming brittle with age and corrosion on the metal are an issue with me as I live in a warm tropical climate with high humidity and die cast models with rubber wheels don't fare to well over time in this climate unless kept in an air-conditioned environment. I don't have this issue with polystone models and I keep them in an unairconditioned environment although I have the AC on part of the time anyway.

The other thing I noticed was the lack of weathering on the vehicles so if you get one and want the vehicle to look weathered and battle hardened as opposed to the straight out of the factory look, then you will have to weather it yourself or get a professional modeler to weather the vehicle for you.
