Sometime ago I was lucky enough to be invited to a preview of this new Battle of Britain museum at the B.O.B Fighter HQ Bentley Priory in the north London suburb of Stanmore. Today was the day of the preview. They really have done a fine job with the building since I last visited some eighteen months ago when it was still a building site. What strikes you straight off is opulent nature of the whole building and it is clear to see the result of the millions of pounds given to the project by the Nation lottery (some 18 million I believe). Its not a large museum but it is packed with good things to see and all of course laid out in the rooms in which Dowding and his team led the defence of Britain in her finest hour. And for any of you familiar with the film 'The Battle Of Britain' and its final scene, the gardens are exactly the same and beautifully restored. If ever any of you find yourself north of London this would be a great place to visit to walk in the steps of Dowding ,The King and Queen and Churchill who came here often to watch the battle unfold on the operations desk below (partially built by my Grandfather!-a contractor for the RAF during the War) Here are some pic (sorry for quality they were taken on my phone)

Looks like a marvelous museum, Rob. I love the full size castings working at the tables. I would really like to see the wall/room with all the medal groupings and pilot bios. -- Al

Thanks Al, I'll be going back again soon so will try and get some better pics next time. The full size castings are very good indeed, similar in fact to the recent Bomber Command memorial figures.

Looks like a great museum and a place that I would like to visit. I was a little kid in London when it was all going on.
