With the recent recovery vehicle announcement by Honour Bound for a BergePanther I was wondering if anyone can add input as to the numbers of these the Germans had in service and if they were produced more than the BergePanzer Tiger. Dragon Armor released the Tiger version in 1/72 last year and I would just like to know which was the most popular of the two German recovery vehicles. There seems to be lots of excitement by collectors on this forum for the upcoming release and I was just pondering why Honour Bound chose to do the Panther version. Please don't take this as a slant towards HB as I to would like to see the final product when its released myself. I believe its a good marketing move to test the waters on HB's account in issuing vehicles that no other companies have tried in these particular scales.
Like I said, just trying to further gain knowledge. My teachers always told me to learn one thing new each day of your life so your brain never grows tired or stagnent.
Oops. Not sure what happened on the double entry.Sorry!!!

Hi Guys,

The production numbers I have for this vehicle are as follows:

Ausf A Model 232. These were produced from June of 43 to September of 44 plus some that were converted from fighting vehicles when they had been sent for rebuild. These were built by MAN and Henschel.

Ausf G Model 107 This was produced by Demag from September of 44 to March of 45.

The numbers for the Bergetiger will really surprise you there were a total of 6 built with 3 each for the P model and the H model. The Germans had a grand total of 899 recovery vehicles of various types including converted obsolete vehicles. Hope these numbers are helpful.

I assume HB is making the BergePanther rather than BergeTiger so that they can use the body sculpts from their existing Panthers. That would be my guess based on the pictures on the HB site - and probably has nothing to do with whether BP's were produced in greater numbers. BTW - the HB Panthers are great and I hope we gets lots of opinions on how they compare to the KC version.

Thanks Dave for the numbers. Thats what I was looking for. Combat,I think your comment carries alot of weight regarding the use of an already existing mold.
Thanks guys..

Hi Guys,

Glad I was able to use one of my books to be of help. I have a few books on the production numbers for both sides during the war so if there is ever another question just ask.

Have great day

Dave
