Best Trappist Beers (1 Viewer)

The Pub around the corner serves all 8 brews + a selection of 350 other beers
We brew in Belgium circa 800 different beers
Yes we have the best chocolates, beers, the best and only "missnamed" french fries but also we offered to the world the saxophone, the dynamo, the audio casettes , the laser disks and lately Kinetic, the surealist painters ( Magritte, Delvaux and many mores )
If you visit one country in Europe.. come in Belgium ^&grin

I've had Chimay (red, white and blue). The alcohol content is outrageous. Something like 11%.

And you lived three years on chocolate and french fries ?
Not so much. Especially the chocolate. I did like Tomates aux crevettes, which I still make with some slight variations
[add tarragon or even capers sometimes]. Waterzooi I had once. Not a fan. Beware of the words "cheval, lapin,
agneau or anguille" on the menu.

Where did you go from there ?
Washington, D.C.

Besides beer, Belgium also has the greatest Formula One Track in the world, Spa Francorchamps. Nothing beats the bus stop chicane!

My first real Trappist Beer was in 2010 when visiting Belgium, and Michel ( Mardasson) showed me and my wife around his region of the Ardennes.

We visited the Abbey of Orval and saw where this famous brew is made, and sampled some that evening with a wonderful meal with his family at his home. I also inspected his troops :)

I only had one beer there, seeing I needed to drive and navigate our way back through the Ardennes Forest at midnight to our Castle (Hotel) in Sedan, France but I have also enjoyed this brew here in OZ.

I love visiting Belgium, just for the beer!

Cheers,

John

Well, I myself am not fan of Waterzooi
Cheval = Yes horse meat, to strong to my taste
Lapin = rabbit : something confusing in Belgium is : what is called sauce lapin .. absolutely nothing to do with a rabbit, but a good pâté au lapin yessss, or rabbit cooked in beer with dried prune
Anguille = eel .. not for me
agneau = lamb .. there, an absolute yes , in the oven with garlic; a small leg of lamb... mmmm
or small piece of beef cooked in beer, with a piece of bread spread with a strong mustard, slowly cooked 6 hours
or mossels cooked in white wine
Well..
You must come back ...
