Funny, I was just looking at a book that that this photo on the cover and it's also on-line. See if you can find "Big Swede's" Southern cousin in the shot.

This the Palmetto Battery from Charleston South Carolina.

Gee, would it be the one wearing his kepi at a jaunty angle?

Yup! The cap that doen't fit! We have a joke in reenacting about the "jaunty angle." It has plus/minus 5 degrees tolerence!

Yep, that dude need a bigger hat.

The clean shaven guy standing in front of the cannon on the left is no little guy either, but at least his hat fits.

From the photo, "Swede" appears to be an officer or NCO with a sword and belt. The TSSD "Swede" is the # 1 man on the gun with a rammer. TSSD also gives us the #3 man at the trail handspike, who also "thumbed" the vent, and the # 5 man that carries the cartridge from the limber chest. Those wounded could be the #2 man that places the charge in the muzzle, and the #4 man with the primer lanyard. I used the CS officer for that function.

Back to "Big Swede," the photo at least shows that there were big guys in CW armies, like the TSSD figure. Funny that I saw the photo as I was working on these figures.

Someone suggested converting this figure holding a Reb under each arm. How about a two Mexicans or two Souix braves?

I think two Mexicans would be fitting, might take a bit of work to do that, I suppose you could do an arm swap with the guy carrying the shells at least they are in the correct position, but it would cause other problems as that guy is wearing a jacket and the Big Swede is in shirt sleeves.
