Assuming price and size were no limitation, what would you want John to do? I would go with a WWI Gotha or maybe Braddock's carriage (I seem to recall he was given one when we he arrived in America and used it briefly during his "march").

The Gotha is an excellent suggestion, assuming price, space, and wife are not involved.:wink2::rolleyes2::D -- Al

A Nile River Steamer for the Sudan range would go down well! ^&cool Al's comments still apply though! :wink2:^&grin

Yes, Braddock did have a fancy carriage. I imagine it was like the one that Duncan and Cora ride in to reach Albany in Last of the Mohicans (1990s). I believe a Colonial Govenor tried to "give" Braddock the carriage, but Braddock insisted on paying for it --- least my recollection.

My focus is still on the FIW period, so I am much more limited as it regards my wish list. WWI and Sudan seem to offer better opportunites. FWI is a difficult target for big ticket item:

(1) Blacksmith "building" with forge for RoF (Really not a big ticket item). Could be stone or logs, but very open with a roof and open walls, not closed in. Chains, tools hanging from perimeter rafters. Make it viable from FIW to the Civil War.

(2) Herd of Packhorses (6 different horses, 2 civilian handlers).

(3) Sailor Crew with Block & Tackle Hauling a 12" Gun up a Steep Slope for BoM or Ticonderoga.

(4) Abercromby at Ticonderoga, Officer Meeting, Fancy Tent, Table, Maps (very much like if K&C's Napoleonic Scene). 5-6 notable British Officers including Bradstreet, maybe Howe, and the brigade commanders. Different regiments so different uniforms, maybe a regimental flag or 2 :wink2::wink2:, etc ....... . maybe even another 44th regimental flag for those who do not have one!!!

(5) If no limit on size, a bastion fort on the order of Fort William Henry, but with the correct dimensions. Six inches tall (15 feet), 12 inches wide (30 foot). Make it modular. The turn angles are either 60 degrees or 75 degrees, so not difficult.

Visible seams are so not wanted or needed on such an item, just use an overlap edge on one side of the piece only to totally hide the joints. The visible seams on some of the current fortification items being manufactured totally turn me off and are so, so unnecessary. My eye is drawn to these seams and they appear like canyons to me ..... beautiful work on the individual pieces, but then they apparently forget the pieces need to work together ---- it looks like someone's grandmother simply takes a cake knife and cuts the large sculpture into pieces!!

I like all of these suggestions!!! It is so nice to dream isn't it??

I agree with AL, Doug and Jeff on the Gotha, and of course we really need a Nile river boat. One of my favorite JJ pieces is still the whale boat

If "assuming price, space, and wife are not involved", he might as well make a Zeppelin.

Ken

Gotha for me too. That would be a wonderful center piece in any collection!

I think John wants to do larger pieces...I remember in one conversation he told me that he now has the facility and means to create larger 3 dimensional structures...planes...tanks...buildings...etc...he has always given us structures...in the past...but I understood him to say that his capabilities to make larger offerings has increased...

I like the idea of a "smithy shop"...his black smith figure is pretty timeless in my opinion...he could be used in so many eras...I wouldn't hesitate to use him in a Sudan diorama shoeing a camel..hahaha...his manner of dress makes him a very versatile figure...

I'm not sure I would go for a steamer...unless it was on a very limited edition and offered much cheaper than the beautiful one that Wm. Britain did...

I don't think I could get too much use out of a carriage...but it's a novel idea...

I was till hoping for some structures for St. Francis...but the last thing I remember John saying....was that he never could find any accurate pictures to work from...but I wouldn't mind a small Jesuit church with a set of priests...

an artillery embankment would be a nice offering...but I must have 4 of my own in the garage...so I can't endorse that...

I wouldn't mind some Mahdist dwellings...I would like to create a small Dervish village...

Ken...you really hit the nail on the head about seams...they stick out like sore thumbs...hopefully that's a thing of the past...I love my blockhouses...but I can't hide the seams...

Mike,

My seam comment was not intended as reference to JJD's blockhouse. I was referring to new releases from other manufacturers that are coming out with conspicuous seams that could easily have eliminated. I would think visibly seamless items would sell so much better than those with those dreadful seams.

But enough about seams, lets get back to some other ideas for big ticket items!!!!

A Zeppelin might be a little too large. How about an observation balloon? There is a whole bunch of stuff related to the Balloon Services that could be done. Ground crews and hoists, anti-aircraft guns and crews, the observers themselves, and the communication systems and crews all would make a fascinating issue. Heck, I have a room to put it in, especially after the wife leaves me.{eek3}{sm2}:D -- Al

I finally have the ultimate answer!!!!

All glossy release of the BoM sets, but packaged in groups of six figures. Indians included. I am thinking that there is a very good chance that I will like the glossy sets more than the matte.

After Rickenbacker's plane, I want to see WWI 2 seat fighters, a bomber, and an airfield building. I also love the idea of an observation balloon.

I'll take these too, but maybe with these additions:

A Mahdi ship to fight the steamer.

The fort is stone.

An English frigate (full gun deck details and crew).

Napoleon's tent with full interior detail.

A French Napoleonic observation balloon.

A WWI Trench system to fit WBritain's.

A WWI British or German tank with full interior detail.
