I was just taking a look at eBay to see what they might have and noticed this Bid Laden set. You don't see those every day

Yes, indeed. I think MIke can answer but I think Hiriart makes requests, which I assume this was.

The Bin Laden/Al Qaeda set is number 1223 in the regular catalog. I don't know how it came about, but I have ordered special sets in the past from Hiriart that they have susequently added to their regular catalog. For example, 1331 Polish Lancers, 1939; 1332 Swedish Horse Guards Mounted Band; and 1333 WW II U.S. Infantry with a General MacArthur personality figure are sets that I ordered as specials which were then added to the catalog the next year.

I am ordering some specials on my pending 2011 order: WW II Polish Infantry, 1939; WW II Slovak Infantry, 1941; WW II Hungarian Infantry, 1941; Mounted Italian Carabinieri both as a band and as a five figure set; and Italian Staff Officers, 1890. Hiriart hasn't made any of these before. I never know which specials I order will later become regular catalog sets. We shall see.

As far as the Bin Laden set is concerned, Brad, you can see what I think of it when you get your 2011 catalog CD this week. I added descriptions to all the regular catalog sets since they didn't have any. You may want to rename it. But in any case, I would not have the set if it was free. I am reminded of the term used by the agency I worked for in the 1960s and 70s: "Terminate with extreme prejudice" which pretty much expresses my feelings regarding Islamic jihadists who want to establish a world-wide califate under Sharia law.

WW II Hungarian Infantry- I would be very interested in buying this set!

But more on topic, I wouldn't say that I am opposed to a Bib Laden set, just that I think it is rather way too early. Kind of like (but in a much more mild way) making a Hitler set in the 50s. Just my opinion. Same goes for reenacting the Vietnam War. Just don't get it.

I am ordering the WW II special sets with an officer, national flag bearer, bugler, and 6 riflemen marching. I sent Hiriart a scan of their uniforms from Osprey's Men-at-Arms number 131, Germany's Eastern Front Allies, 1941-45. The price will be $120 per set. I haven't placed my 2011 order yet and won't do so until after the West Coaster next month. It will take months to have the order filled; probably in two parts in August and December. The Hungarians should be wearing dark khaki German style helmets, dark khaki pants, and a lighter khaki tunic. If all this is ok with you, e-mail me at matara42@roadrunner.com with your name and address and I will order a set for you.

Here is a photo of set 1223.
