I am posting a photo of my set of Britains vintage Black Watch Color party -- set no. 2111. (The set that appears on the cover of Joe Wallis' book "Regiments Of All Nations.")

I got this set off of an Vectis auction several years back. Hope you enjoy it.

Hi Dick,

Wow that set is in great condition. Do you display it in the box? Thanks for sharing your collection!

All the best

I used to have the closed coach coronation set in the red box until I traded

it for a Lionel Engine. It was quite nice, but delicate.

:eek: You are kidding please tell me LOL

Do you really want to know? I used to manage a Toy Store in New Jersey

and I did business with Reeves who handled Britians, Elastolin, and other lines.

My salesman knew I collected figures so he told me of two

Coronation Coaches left over at another shop this was back in 1974. I made

a trip over and bought one in the original box tied in for $50, the other one

had been displayed and was missing the box so I passed on it.

I had it for a number of years then lost the box top while moving into our

new home. This made storing it difficult, so one day I traded it for a boxed

Lionel Virginian.

Over the years I frequently rotate items in my collection. I wish I never lost

the box top, and I'm sure the set is quite valuable, but its not a total loss as

the Lionel Boxed Virginian is a $1250 item.:D

Well I gues you did ok then as I think top whack for the Coronation coach is about $500 and they are quite common on ebay.

Oh, well thanks you had me worried there for a moment! You really never

know which is why I love old toys so much. A long time ago I picked up a

wonderful boxed Smith Miller P.I.E. truck in the original box for $125 at a

train show. They are quite pricey today.......of course at the same show I

sold a boxed Dinky Pinder set for $200 sooooo you win some you lose some.

Do you have the Coronation Set? It might be a nice one to show!

Unfortunatley I do not have one, there are 3 versions that I am aware of

1st all gold coach
2nd gold coach with blue painted panels
3rd 2003 release panels painted to depict the panels on the real coach (this is the one I would like and is about $300.)

They also made smaller versions with either 2, 6 or eight horses (the horse's were flats.)

My experience -- albeit limited -- is that a boxed set in excellent condition can sell for at least twice as much as an unboxed set in excellent condition. If the figures, or coach, as the case may be -- are still originally tied in -- then the selling figure could be three or four times as much.

When I got my set I thought there were two the open landeau and the

closed coach. I remember my set was in a deep red box with a picture and

description on the box cover.

Having the box has always been a big plus. In the 1970's it was not really

a big deal in the Lionel Train market place. I remember when someone found

a rare set box or engine box people would say "I bet you wish you had what

went inside" the boxes might bring $100 if you were lucky. Then a collector

who had amassed a hugh collection of rare boxes had an article published on

his collection. Over night box prices skyrocketed. Today rare set boxes can

bring thousands (for an empty box) some even rival the rare sets themselves.

Now, you have to be concerned with counterfeits.

My Dad has a cornation coach from when he was a kid. this one survived childhood BB guns and the like.

Oh boy, childhood and the classic toys. I'm glad they can't bring you up on

charges. I must have knocked the heads off several dozen britians lead

figures........and then there was the one time I wanted to see if G.I.Joe

1st Series......was Fireproof!

He wasn't:eek:
