Another book I want to mention which I have on order from the same publisher is Blindados (armored cars) during the Spanish Civil War. It's available from the same publisher and a prominent Spanish Civil War site has recommended it. I will post some photos when I get it.

Abe Books also has one copy for those who may be interested.

As I mentioned about Carros de Combate, the book is in Spanish but I'm sure it is well worth purchasing even if you can't read Spanish.

If you are interested in purchasing the book from the publisher, please let me know and I will post specific instructions if you can't speak Spanish.

I received my copy today of Blindados (armored cars) from Casa del Libro in Madrid today. It's got some fascinating armored cars of all shapes and sizes. I will try to post some photos from the book tonight.

Hi Brad,

I shall very much look forward to your photos! Thanks for thinking of us!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

A lot of very ugly tanks in that war. The T-26 ranks among the least appealing, but still historically worthy. There were apparently many that were captured by the Nationalists and converted for use with very colorful turrets to ensure they were not mistaken for the enemy.

Here are some photos from the book:

Autoametralladora Bilbao (automatic machine gun) - Made in 1936 from a Dodge chassis. Carried three men: commander, drive and three machine gunners.

Hispano Suiza 3T6 - Made between October 1936 and January 1937 in Republican controlled Barcelona. The closest one has the initals of the principal anarchist unions, which were very strong in Barcelona and helped put down the uprising in July 1936.

FAI - Made between 1932 and 1936 from a Gaz-A. Carried a crew of two: the commander who also fired the machine gun and a driver. A Republican vehicle. The one shown was captured by the Nacionalists.

Blindado Number 9 - Unidentified as to make but an odd looking one. Used by the Nationalists in the war in the North in 1937.

Improvised Armored Car - Made in the Basque region. It's fully covered in metal, with a rear door and triangular slits. Another interesting thing about this photo is that it appears a militiaman and a soldier have been captured by two Nationalist soliders of the Carlist Requetes (the Carlists hailed principally from the Navarre region) and are being led away, possibly to be executed.

Brad- thanks for the extra stuff on this fasinating line from JJ. I am going to pick up the Osprey book I hope in Chicago if I can find it. The Amoured Cars are great and I think they's made excellent models for collectors.

I watched PAN'S LABYRINTH a few years ago and it includes some of the combatants from this conflict. Has anyone else watched this excellent movie...?
