Hi Andy,

I recently stumbled upon a video by BMC Toys who makes a plastic Iwo Jima playset. Supposedly, the playset was designed from a K&C diorama. I'd be so curious to see the original dio if pictures exist, or some additional information re. collaboration between K&C and BMC Toys.

Not to speak for Andy, but the former owner of BMC Toys teamed up with Andy to make the playset, Andy let BMC use his original Sherman tank mold, Amtrac mold, first issue Marines and Japanese and his terrific Iwo Jima Island terrain feature along with the Marine flag raising set.

The entire set was made out of plastic.

It was a huge hit with collectors at the time the set sold like mad as did the Amtracs and Shermans, plastic collectors owe Andy a huge debt of gratitude for allowing this venture to happen...…………………...

Well to be fair to BMC if you're going to legally copy you may as well ensure it's the highest quality you intend to copy!😉😀

Here's a couple of photos of Pacific beach landing scenes featuring the BMC Amtracs that I painted and added a couple of vision hatches for the crew a couple of years ago.

Back in the day I was very friendly with Bill McMaster, the original founder of ‘BMC’.

Bill approached me one day to say how much he liked our first ‘Iwo Jima’ series of US Marines and could he buy the rights to duplicate the poses, vehicles and landscape in plastic...

We came to an agreeable financial deal along with a ‘credit’ for K&C on the Box set packaging.
Bill did a great job and they sold in the many thousands.

We talked about another potential K&C series for BMC at the time of his death but alas that was not to be. Bill was a great guy and a pleasure to do business with.
Andy.

Every now and then, I take a look at the old plastic sets that remind me of playing toy soldiers as a kid. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that K&C inspired a plastic set. I think that's awesome and demonstrates the impact fantastic designs by K&C have on the toy soldier community. Read some nice comments about Bill from BMC as well (RIP).

I found some older K&C photos on Sager Toy Soldiers and I can see why another company would draw inspiration or want to produce as an entire plastic set.

Win win for the community; adults and children alike.

Steve, cool shots. You know I esp. like your Pacific Marine combat scenes.

Warrior, thank you for providing a little more background on the topic.

And Andy, thank you for continuing to be an amazingly creative individual who has provided me (and I'm sure others), with years of enjoyment building our collections. Every piece is a treasure!

Thanks for answering and keep them coming. {bravo}}
