I hope one day JJ will venture into this campaign. John seems to like going leftfield compared to other manufacturers and the Second Boer War is, with the passing of time, becoming a forgotten war despite the sheer scale of it. Even a handful of figures for a modest vignette would be a very welcome addition and I think JJ would do it justice too.

I could see this as a limited series sort of thing. British troops, a blockhouse to defend, marauding mounted Boers. It could work. -- Al

Yes I would follow, John would be the man to do this series, right up his alley. Robin.

This would be a series I also would collect particularly if it included Australian figures

Definitely be intetested in this.

I bought the DVD "Breaker Morant" the other day for 99p at a charity shop. Haven't seen if for years so looking forward to Mrs Simmo leaving me alone for a couple of hours......great film.

We visited Spion Kop about 10 years ago. The trenches (such as they were) are still there and a nice visitor display.

For those interested in trivia, many football grounds in England had a steep terrace at one end called "the Kop" after the steep terraces of Spion Kop. The most famous one is at Anfield (Liverpool FC) but many have now gone with the new all-seater stadium replacing the older grounds.

Yes, I have been to Spion Kop too and it holds this sort of eerie ambience much like iSandlwana does on a quiet coach free day! I was also stood on the Kop for the last ever Merseyside Derby before it went to an all seater. That was a very different ambience but no less enjoyable!

By and large there were few incidents of hand to hand combat but there were some and I thought it would perhaps be an idea if JJ could stretch to a terrain board, if such a series would have limited numbers, with Boers behind a boulder strewn summit trying to repel another British advance. I've always been a dreamer!

The other action that gets nowhere near as much attention as iSandlwana or Rorke's Drift is Maiwand. The last stand of the 66th is equally fascinating.

Yes the 2nd Afghan War has took a back seat to the Zulu and Sudan Wars. This is where Lord Roberts gained his fame.

Yes that's why Little Bob's Coat of Arms rests on the shoulders of a Highlander and a Gurkha, the troops tat earned him his title at places like the Dargai Heights and the route from Kabul to Kandahar.
