Hello the World,
I type this message with some apprehension, as one is aware that the content is more in the area of history, than the world of toy soldiers, but here goes, as it is important to help keep myths in place.
The battle of Culloden was between the supporters of the Jacobite cause lead by Prince Charles Edward Stuart and the Hanoverian army lead by the Duke of Cumberland. The Jacobite army composed mainly of Highland Scots, but there were also Irish, some Lowland Scots, maybe even a few English Jacobites plus the Garde Ecossaise, a French regiment which had originally been made up of Scotsmen,( by 1745 there is some doubt as to how Scottish the regiment was). In the Hanoverian or government the army consisted of English and Scottish regiments and maybe a Hessian/Hanoverian unit. The Scottish regiments present were the 1st, 21st ,25th of foot and Loudon's Highlanders plus some dragoons.
So as can be gathered from the above summary the conflict was divisive and more complex than an English v Scottish dispute.
Apologizes for the short history lesson, and one tried to be even handed in the above message and hopefully avoided any whiff of partisanship or triumphalism than can creep in sometimes to non toy/model soldier related messages. Who would be a moderator.
