Around this time of year I start thinking about books for my list of suggestions that family members might consider.
The following have caught my eye :
Russia Against Napoleon by Dominic Lieven (Penguin Press).
Covers 1807 - 1814 from the Russian side.
The Three Emperors by Miranda Carter (Fig Tree).
Looks at the three related WWI rulers of England (George V), German
(Kaiser) and Russia (Nicholas) and their childhood, inept statesmanship,
foibles and quirks etc.
A World on Fire by Amanda Foreman (Allen Lane)
Looks at the American Civil War through the lives of over 100
British participants (soldiers, mercenaries, politicians, spies, journalists,
diplomats and doctors and nurses).
All these look like new releases.
Anybody else spotted any of interest ?.
Regards
Brett
