We have an extra day in the Moscow area - so off to the Borodino battlefield on Friday if all goes well. Hopefully taking some pictures that I will post later.

Make sure you check out the Borodino Panorama in Moscow if you haven't already. Also, and you may have seen this, there is a great WWII Military park with all sorts of tanks, entrenchments, planes, etc... in Moscow as well. Have fun!

Best of luck to you and your wife in your travels Doug :)

Thanks Brad. Everything went well and we are back home. One more trip to go. Had a great time at Borodino on a nice spring day.

This is a picture of the monument at the site of the Rayevsky Battery - scene of some of the heaviest fighting:

the grave of General Bagration on the opposite side of the Rayevsky monument:

Borodino was also the location of a WWII battle. This is some type of bunker near the Rayevsky monument:

The Shevardino redoubt:

Looking from the Shevardino redoubt toward the monument of the French Army. Somewhat surprised they had one for the French. This was also the site of Napoleon's command post for the Borodino battle.

Monument for Kutuzov and site of his command post at Borodino:

This is a nice dio of the battle. Picture is taken from behind the French line. If you have good eyes you can see the village of Borodino (white church) sort of in the middle left along the river:

I think this is what happens when two battles were fought on the same field...

Couple more:

Convent of the Saviour founded in 1838 by the widow of Gen. Tuchkov. On the site of the Bagration fleches:
