Hi all,
Does anybody remember, when the BOS series was launched a guide on how to make birch trees out of paper or something similar was knocking about on the JJD website (I think). Does anybody remember where it was?

Thanks

Pete

It was on John's website but it appears he has taken it down.

yes I too remember them.......but i believe they have been gone awhile ....I use Dept 56 winter birch for my setup.....:D

Michael's has a lot of nice winter trees but if you wait a couple of weeks the prices will be knocked down big time.I have gotten birch trees there.

Hi,
Thanks for your replies. I think I've found a solution re making my own. Would still like to have seen the JJD solution though.

this was from John...

"The website got “hacked” a while back and I had to lose the relevant pages, and then when I had the computer problem last year I lost all the pictures.

I still get a few inquiries about the trees.

They are quite easy to make from wire coat hangers

Cut the wire coat hangers to length

Cover with masking tape to add the thickness and taper the shape slightly.

Then I paint the tree with a texture paste. This gets rid of the tape joins etc. The texture should be applied in the direction of the bark.

The part I cant help with at the moment is the painting.

There were 4-5 colours used to get the final effect. And I can’t remember which colours they were".

Hi Mike,
Thank you for the pointers. That is what I like about this forum....everybody is so helpful!
I think I've found a method which is good enough for me, using those bundles of sticks you can get from IKEA and some white paint.....Watch this space!!!!
