HI - I want to make some soldiers from this period. Does anyone have some plastic 1/32nd for inspiration. My first idea was to use AIP WW1 German inf in spiked helmets and swap them for slouch /turn up brim hats to represent the German East Asia Brigade.

You might be able to use Iron Brigade heads from the AIP set on the Germans. If the brim is on the wrong side, just graft on the hats and position. I also use Boers as civilian Legation defenders.

The AIP Zulu War British Infantry in Shirtsleeves could volunteer their headgear for some German Naval Battallion troops as well. :)

hi - thanks for ideas - tried some greenstuff putty today for the first time to fashion a brimmed hat - see attached German East Asia Brigade infantryman.

Looks great 9th,

Green stuff is an excellent converting and sculpting medium. Holds details very well. I usually just use a cotton swab moistened with water for smoothing. I've found a few helpful hints and tips on Jason Whitman's blog. He shares a few pics of his workbench in some of his earlier posts. He's mainly a figure modeler, but his methods and techniques are applicable to conversions.

AIPs redone as Austrian, French, AND German sailors with 2 part putty. I didn't redo the rifles.

Great photos, Scott, of your conversions for this period. Looks like inspiration for considering my own Boxer period figures. Cheers and thanks for sharing!
