Hi
Firstly thanks for accepting me on this forum.
I have picked up 2 Britains hollow cast cavalry lancers, with plug arm. They are painted red like 16 Lancer's, but have unusual Albert style helmets. Condition appears quite good, although 1 lance tip is broken.

Welcome to the forum, John, and thanks for sharing these with us!

Yes, they look to be intact, as far as the castings go. They are in pretty good shape. Me, I might strip them and repaint them. I'll be curious to hear John's (johnnybach's) opinion, too. He reworks old hollowcast figures, from repainting them, to replacing lost parts or modifying figures to new poses and even subjects. You should look at his threads and see his collections of knights, cowboys and Indians, and the British Army.

I look forward to seeing other posts from you!

Prost!

Hello John,
Believe they are from Britains Set No. 44, Queen's Bays (2nd Dragoon Guards) Third Version (two-eared horse) manufactured from 1919-1952. Judging from the paint condition (appears original), and belly markings, would estimate year of manufacture between 1946-1952. You’re correct, they are in reasonably good condition. James Opie Rarity Index No. 41 (mid range) for entire set of 5. If only the lancehead is missing would personally consider just replacing that part. Alternative being to replace the entire arm with lance (replacements are available). Hope this is of assistance.

Hi
Many thanks for your help Brad and Jim. Very useful. The lances stopped me assuming Dragoons.
Regards
John

Hi John and welcome.

Agree - with Jim and Brad. The Queens Bays, (2nd Dragoon Guards, from Set 44. Personally, I would repaint them - as I'm not really interested in value - I just wouldn't like them in my cabinet with missing bits and paint loss. I would probably replace the broken Lance, the easiest way being to replace arm/lance.

Nice figures. Spare parts can be obtained for them and most other Britains figures from Dorset Model Soldiers who have an online web-site. Do have a look. If you get stuck - give me a shout as I live in Derriford, Plymouth too. Johnnybach
