I noted last week that the prices of Britains Ltd Civil War figures sold at the museum store at the Gettysburg Visitor Center were in the middle $30 range while they were in the high $20 range just down the road at a local hobby store. Would you pay more for miniatures to support the museum, cyclorama, and National Park or go down the street?

BTW I bought the same $12 cannon for $6 down the street, but I did buy the tickets for the movie, cyclorama, and the Eisenhower Farm tour. Check out Ike's collection of figures at the farm house.

As I don't do Civil War, the comparable thing would be Waterloo (let's pretend they carry Britains and that there is a nearby TS shop). But this is a very hard question. Ultimatly, I would probably buy the figures at the cheaper price, and make a direct donation of all or some of the difference. This way, I get the best price, and can do some good too!

I had a similiar experience in Gettyburg this spring . I purchased admission to the museum , cyclorama and movie but purchaed WB ACW figures downtown (better price and selection ) .

I have noticed in Canada as well that museum stores' prices are normally high .

If these museum prices were on par with other retail outlets I'm sure most collectors would purchase figures from them whenever possible . I assume the museum stores target customers are souvenir buyers and not collectors .

In all that fluff, at least Eisenhower had Marx figure in the mix.

Kind of '"cool" for Ike to have two cereal box prizes of oneself. Most of the farm house was Mrs. Eisenhower's realm with the President having a den that dripped testosterone.
