We have a similar set in our family as well. Purchased for my Dad in about 1946 (for $2!) and played with hard. When I was a kid of about 10-12, they were presented to me, still in original box but well played. I played with them and then put them away, again in the ragged but still original box.
Now, I have presented these to my nephew who has just begun the third generation of play with these humble figures. To a child's imagination, missing paint, a few dents and broken guns does nothing to diminish the joy of playing with such ancient toys. I speak of this from personal experience.
Thanks for sharing your pics of this pristine example of a well-loved friend from several childhoods.
Cheers,
D.
