Parts required to complete a Britains Heavy Howitzer. I have the "bottom half" ( in need of some TLC) - and need the top half to complete: (condition unimportant, as I don't ever want to fire the beast - so not too concerned if it doesn't work again).

But..................would love to complete with breech and barrel etc. For purchase or perhaps trade me for something you want. If I don't have it - I can possibly make it????{sm4}

Here's what I have - and what I'd like it to look like.

Thanks - johnnybach

Looking forward to seeing this one restored JB:^&grin^&grin

Me too Sah! I s'pose I could always leave it like it is - and title it "Direct Hit!"^&grin

If you spot the bits anywhere - give me a yell John - thx :salute::- jb

JB,

This was at one of the London shows. I will keep my eye out next month.

Excellent Jeff - That's the monster alright! I doubt whether the owner would allow you to dismantle the "top half" though!!! (which is the bit I want).:D

That bottom half came along with a large job-lot I bought from an e-bay buy. If I can get it completed, it will fit nicely to the back of a Steam Traction Engine - currently nearing completion.

Thanks for keeping an eye out for me - jb

John,

Speaking of steam traction engines, it could be worth talking to a local model engineer about that one. Some of the barrel and mechanism parts look like they could be turned up fairly easily on a small lathe.

John,
Good luck in finding a gun mate, I have both versions which I have to say took ages to find. The key is persistence and you will succeed, mind it may cost you a few Bob! I am curious about your plan to use the traction engine, what make have you got? what scale etc? I have long planned to do the same.

And before you ask....not for sale :wink2:
Wayne.

Hi Wayne - I haven't shown my Steam Tractor yet - as it isn't finished. I got it from John Eden Studios in the UK ( after a tip-off from Obee). He made one up for Luiz in South America.

I liked it very much - as I've seen one in a WW1 re-enactment in the South of England. I'm painting mine up to look similar to the colour scheme of the one I saw then. (There's a you-tube of the event I posted somewhere here too).

Mine currently looks like this - but I've come to a stop - as I can't make up my mind whether or not to put a canopy on it. I'm also going to make it Glossy - so it's somewhat unfinished yet. The driver comes with the kit - and all is 54mm.

I think the Britains big Howitzer will look okay with it - so yes - will keep looking. There's probably the bit I want lurking in a cardboard box somewhere - so it's just a matter of finding it - and putting it back together again.

Here's an on-going project pic for you. Chat to Obee about it - 'cos he also made one up before me. jb

It's a thought - but as I've only just got the wheels and bed - I'll give it a go with looking around first. Not a bad idea though. Thanks Scott. jb

Nice work on the Steam tractor. I have had the same idea using an older gas powered tractor. Not a lot of documentation to work from, unfortunately.

I have been collecting Britains howitzers and guns for years. I recently picked up a 18" Garrison gun and a couple mobile 18" howitzers. I Collect different guns based on their period of manufacture. Nice to see there are other "heavy gun" fanatics here.

There have been a few "parts" guns up on the US and UK eBay sites recently. Keep looking!

Here is an article you may enjoy, provided to me by another big gun fan...

Thanks for the article Tom - most interesting. Yep - I'm still looking for a "top half" - though mine won't be firing anything - far too dangerous - as I spend lots of time repairing figures - many of which probably became in that unhappy state of dis-repair- due in part to beasts like this ( and their owners!!).

I'm still pondering putting a cover over my Tractor - so haven't progressed it any further yet - but as I have plenty of wounded Soldiers and animals to repair - I'm not short of any work.

If you - or any friends ever hear or come across any top parts to either weapon - please do let me know...

Thanks again - nice to know we have similar likes {sm4} jb
