I am familar with Britains' cavalry sizes -- having collected them for years, including their Light Brigade sets. never collected K&C figures, altough I have admired them over the internet. Before I start shelling out money for figures from a different manufacturer, I was wondering if anyone can advise how the K&C Light Brigade cavalry figures compare (side by side) with Britains cavalry figures? If anyone could post a photo showing one of each side by side it would be great.

Sorry Dick, I don't have any K&C figures to photograph, but they will be quite a bit larger than your Britains troopers. The K&C figures will be more like 60mm vs. 54mm for Britains, but detail will be better for most K&C. Also, paint and color is generally more vibrant on the K&C figures. Having said this, you can combine anything you want if you like them, but lined up on a shelf together, the K&C cavalry will look quite a bit larger than Britains.

Hope that helps some

Yo trooper, Hi Dick, you might as well go for the Bitains sets of the 1990s if you want the Light Brigade. You can get the 5 regiments in boxes of fours and they are really good, you see them on ebay but seem to be getting less and less as the weeks go by. I will give you a shout when a set comes up. My Light Brigade you see in cabinet are all 1990s sets.
Bernard.

The five sets you want Dick are, #3109 8th Hussars, #3110 11th Hussars, #3111 4th Light Dragoons, #3112 13th Light Dragoons, #3113 17th Lancers. Then you can sound the Charge lol, can usually get the set around £35-40.

Hi Dick,

I would say the Britains will seem small compared to the K&C figures but I dont have one of the K&C figures to put in a photo for you to see side by side.

I have figures from several eras of Britains and will say that they have made the horses bigger in recent years so sets like the 16th Lancers at the Halt will probably look comparibly close in size to the K&C.

The sets that our friend Bernard has will look quite small. My advice is to get one of the K&C 17th Lancers and make a comparison, its a good sum of money for one figure around $160 but you might find it is worth the cost. If you do then you can go for the rest of the series from K&C but keep in mind they produce significantly smaller runs then Britains and may have pieces already sold out.

Hope this advice is helpful

All the best

Dave

it's not the cost of the set that hurts -- but the shipping charges from the UK to the USA. SOmetimes shipping is half again as much as the set. And, of course the seller doesn't care, becasue most of the time, he doesn't get to pocket the shipping costs.

Thanks -- sounds like a plan.

Hi Dick,

I can take a photo of the one K&C mounted figure I have with some Britains from several eras. I have the Joan of Arc mounted figure which I assume is similar in size to the other K&C figures. I know its not the same as seeing several versions of the 17th Lancers side by side but I susopse you can make a good comparison just the same. Let me know if you want me to take these photos.

If possible -- that would really be great. Thank you very much.

Hi Guys,

Here are the pictures of a group of Britains from the 1920s till the present day. I will post several shots. So I hope this helps.
number 1 is a group shot of britains. They are from left to right 9th Lancer form a set from the 1920's then we have a Skinners Horse Lancer from the early 1990s, Next is a 27th Madras Trooper from the Durbar followed by the Officer of the Viceroys Body Guard and Queen Elizabeth.
All the best

Now here are some comparison shots of the K&C Joan of Arc and several of the figures from before you will see there is quite a large difference between her and the Troopers from the 1990s but not quite as large a difference between her and the Trooper from the Durbar.

I hope you find this comparison useful when deciding on sets.

Thanks dave very much. Since I have been a Britains collector for many years, I don't think i am going to switch horses in mid stream. I think i will stick with a winner. Thanks again.

Meanwhile, St. Joan could sure make quick work of the 9th lancer, huh?

She is a beauty thats for sure. Also incase anyone is wondering I noticed she still had some of her packing material stuck under her leg. Sorry for that but I had to sneak her out of my wifes horde of "to be given when he is a good boy and does what I ask!":D Pat likes to refer to this as the vault. Anyway she is out of town so I could sneak in without her catching me:cool:

Dick,

If your comment about shipping charges was regarding the K & C Charge, Treefrog carries them as the exclusive US distributor so you'll save yourself shipping costs.

I don't have any of the Britains Charge but I wouldn't think it would work in a diorama because of the size and the sculpting is so different. I thought about it myself but I think it would just look odd unless you just enjoy the Charge and want to collect Charge figures from different manufacturers. I think the K & C is a wonderful series (the best sculpted figures I've ever seen) but like I said I don't think mixing them would work well.

Thank you. I agree totally with your anaylsis. The figures really don't blend well together. When mentioning the shipping charges, I was referring to various UK dealers I have purchased items from on Ebay. Thanks again.
