Yo Troopers, this is the last guy to invade Britain 1066. The Spanish tried sunk them in 10 minutes lol. The mighty Germans tried dont make me hiccup, soon sorted them out, but I know some of you think they were good. No match for the British Empire we are bulldogs Grrrrrrr. Ooops sorry guys forgot to mention we could not have done it without the great USA. Watching a documentary the other night about the Bow and what an awesome weapon it was in battle. They mentioned that this was the main reason the Saxons lost the Battle to William. The Saxons were not into Bows that much were as the Norman's were. The Norman Archers just slaughtered the Saxon's. After this the Saxons had to surrender all their weapons but were allowed Bows for hunting. Hence a few years down the road we were the most feared on the battle field with the Long Bows:D. Gave the old French a few lessons in Archery skills.;). This is a Chas Stadden chess King piece from his Chess set "The Tower Of London". Never released as a single by Chas its one of the later TKS models which I dont usually buy they released it as a single, but have to have this model of the Conqueror.
Bernard.

That is a very pretty piece mate. Of course you forgot to mention that Napoleon's plans for invasion were also thwarted by the threat of the Royal Navy and the French disaster at Trafalgar.;):D

Yo Spit, your so right, did forget. But big Ron takes the hump:eek: if you mentioned we gave his hero a good British thrashing, so wont mention it:D.

I thought the last successful invasion of Britain was from 1942-44 by the US Army! We snuck 6 million men ashore and you guys never noticed anything (except for the improved cusine! :)). A few brave souls tried to raise the alarm with cries of "The Yanks are overpaid, oversexed and over here!" A little more time and our guys would have had the British driving on the "correct" side of the road.

Bernard, you also forgot the French landing at Fishguard in 1797 thwarted by the Castlemartin Yeomanry and the local militia. Notable in that "Fishguard" is the only battle honour won on British soil.

Yo Troopers, feel really:eek: Dropped a major clanger here, I know what your thinking its not like Bernard:rolleyes: lol. This was issued by Chas Stadden # 211 at the Poole factory (Bullers). All I can say in my defence is,
"I SHOULD HAVE GONE TO SPECSAVERS"

Yo Trooper,

For these mistakes, you've earned some stable time next to yours truly :D

I think you may be forgiven that since applying the term "invasion" to this funny little historical footnote would seem more that a wee bit aggressive.:D It seems the so called "invasion force" was comprised mostly of recently released convicts led by an Irish American septuagenarian. While their planned objective was Bristol, the four ships carrying the motley crew were deterred by winds and weather and even warning shots fired by an ancient fort until they settled on a sandy beach near the village of Llanwnda. After landing the French ships beat a hasty retreat, hardly indicative of an invasion effort, to avoid being obliterated by the Royal Navy. On shore, the group lost what little semblence of order they may have had and proceeded to indulge in a two day drunken looting spree that was abruptly ended when they encountered a group of scarlet clad Welsh women that had come to witness any fighting between the French and the local men of the militia. It seems they thought they were Redcoats.:D . Of course that was after some score of the rascals had been rounded up at pitchfork point by the 47-year-old Jemima Nicholas (Jemima the Great), the wife of a Fishguard cobbler.:D So colorful raid yes; but as an invasion, there have been more serious threats from German soccer fans.:D

Actually...now that I think of it, Fishguard would make a fantastic and mildly amusing diorama! Who's up to the challenge?

Well I am for it but where would you get the figures? You need some drunken, unkempt, disheveled and surrendering French, Welsh ladies with scarlet tunics and tall black felt hats, Jemima the Great with a pitchfork, some local militia and an ancient Irish American General.;):D It sounds like something RC could do well.

Believe it or not the toy soldier firm Good Soldiers in 1997 issued a boxed set of nine figures titled, The Last Invasion of Britain Bicentenary, 1797-1997, Historical Personages, as present at French Invasion, Fishguard, Wales, 1797. Rather esoteric, but I acquired the set as a gift. At the time totally ignorant, I researched and found the book, History of the French Invasion of Fishguard 1797, Pamela Horn, 1980, Pembrokeshire Press, Fishguard, Wales. Would include a photo, but the set is currently stored, and I'm not sure where. Will try and find it.

Reading your posts really does make me laugh out loud. My colleagues must think I've lost it.
