How about a Britains poll?

I have been back through all the Britains threads and I do not recall ever seeing one. Perhaps one on limited editions or even new releases?

For limited edition, if it has to be a band, how about the new regimental Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland?

For new release or limited edition, lets see what Britains can do with a Tiger tank? If that's been done too much, how about a Churchill tank series. Could start of with a Mark II and III used at Dieppe (the current Corgi one has errors, such as track covers and is not 1:32 scale), then do later versions, including the "bobbins" used in Normandy - carpet layer, petard etc. To go along with this series could be engineers, British or Canadian. Could be a lead up to the D-Day 65th anniversary in 2009?

Hi Guys,

This sounds good to me too. I have mentioned in the past that Britains should do some of the odd vehicles from WWII and some of the ones that were mainstays in the CBI Theather like the Lee Tank and Honeys/Stuarts with the markings for units like the 3rd Carabiniers (Lee) or The 7th Light Cavalry (Honeys) or a Sherman from the Royal Deccan's Horse.

A Churchill MK VII Crocodile with the trailer would be really great too especially since they were used rather effectively in Normandy.

As for bands lets turn back the clock to the 1903 Durbar and get a band out from one of the more colorfully attired units like Skinners Horse or The Irish or Scotish Regiments that were on duty there.

I have a lot of other suggestions if anyone wants to chat on this thread.

All the best

Dave

Dave,

Good ideas! Hopefully we can get a pole going that the Britains guys will take note of. Here is a link to some "Funnies" not sure by which company, maybe Airfix?

More historical bands would be great. I thought the Royal Regiment of Scotland since it was new unit in 2006 and Britains might be able to do some innovative marketing with it - directly to the Regiment and its public relations unit, its various veterans associations, recruiting events etc.

I would love to hear yours and others suggestions. Then maybe the moderators can run a pole.

You have the capacity to make a poll (or so I've been told by Shannon) or I can do it for you. If you would like me to do it, please let me know what the question is, what are the choices and if poll participants can pick more than one choice.

OK, thanks Brad. I guess I'll wait to see what Dave and the others suggest as options.

Hi There!
We are always reading the threads on the various forums, chatting with folks at shows and have recently polled the members of the W.Britain collectors club to see what people are interested in seeing developed. I am sure this is the same for all manufacturers, and it is of great value to us at the development end of the process.
The W. Britain range is a bit more diverse in product selection with traditional gloss, bands, matt finished historical, ceremonial and plastic. We welcome suggestions for all of these product lines in addition to comments on the new releases. Watch for the first half 2007 catalog in a couple of weeks. Ken Osen/H&A Studio

Ken,

Great to hear you are canvassing wide for what everybody wants.

Since you brought up the other areas, do we have to wait for the catalogue or can you give us a hint on the new SuperDeetail plastics?

How about expanding on the SuperDeetail WWII series? WWII has received a huge boost in popularity since the 50th and 60th anniversaries, Hollywood war movies. Kids are buying toy soldiers again.

How about German paratroops, mountain troops, panzer grenadiers, Waffen-SS?

For Allies, how about Canadian troops, British Commandos, US Rangers, "Resistance" fighters (could be any country), artillery units with die-cast guns.

Although WW1 does not have the same profile, has consideration been given to these in SuperDeetail?

Perhaps you could address my previous thread question on Deetai boxed sets also?

Hugh,

Nice of you to start this tread. I like all the suggestions so far and would love to see Britians produce limited editions for all the various eras or wars. With my bias being towards the rev war, I would love to see either a Founding Fathers edition or a fife and drum corp. I can't wait to see the 2007catalog and I am hoping it will contain some nice surprises for all the product lines.

Hi,
How about producing the classic collections, American and British, in matt?

Why not have a series based on a particular regiment, say Royal marines, and start from the 18th and continue up to the 20th century.

I have the 1st Rhode Figures and enjoy them. Why not have series based on ethnic troops. The French used a lot of them as did the British. The ethnic units chosen could be integrated into your WWI, line.

Last one, how about a series based on Gallopolli or WWI in the Middle East. There needs to be a descent figure of TE Lawrance. The one by Corgi is comically and bares no resemblance to him.

Cheers,
Benjamin

Hi All,

Good Grief Hugh you may have finally found some of the other hidden Britains collectors with this question. I am really glad to see some other folks take a bit of interest in this.

Benjamin, The folks at Britains did a very decent limited edition of Lawrence back in 1998 Set number 5298 Lawrence and the Arab Revolt 1917. It was a good likeness of him and is still available from time to time on the secondary market so keep an eye out for it. They also had a really wonderful set planned for Gallipoli that was going to be marketed in conjunction with the folks who run the WWI Memorial for Australia but unfortunately it was never brought to conclusion so I too would love to see it reborn and brought out in the not too distant future.

As for other idea I have a lot of them but I am interested to see if any one else has some good ideas like the ones put forth so far. So lets see what you guys are looking for.

All the best

Dave

For a limited edition band I'd like to see a glossy Napoleonic era band. There are so many colorful regiments to choose from.
Classic collection should remain glossy (Why do you think it's called classic)? But I'd like to see sets not just single figures.
I agree with Dave. Bring back interesting periods like the Durbar. Seems like the toy soldier hobby has been dumbed down in recent years.

There are more 'Classics' coming and they will be in the gloss finish. The Redcoats, Bluecoats, a band I think you will really like and another surprise range!
Some of the subject matter might be considered for the future as a matt product, but this would also be the slightly larger and more detailed sculpting style, like ACW, AWI, Napoleonics, WWI & II.
Have any of you taken advantage of the collectors club to add the special figures to your collections?

Hi Ken,

Yes I'm a member and have to reup so I can get the Crimean War figure but I have all of them from the Ghurka to last years figure. They are really quite nice. I am looking forward to the new ones when they come out as well as the VC Series. Keep up the good work.

Ken,

I've been a member since inception. I'm Loooking forward to seeing some consistency and connection to the other ranges in the club figures now that First Gear has taken over... seemed so haphazard before.

Also, inexplicably, my membership no was changed back about 1997 with no explanation, this happen to anyone else? Anyone know why?

Dave, think we have enough ideas to run a poll now?

Hi Hugh,

I think that we may well have enough ideas for a poll. It will be interesting to see how many folks respond to it. Since Ken and Richard are also on this site they may be interested in the results, but I am not sure how many folks will respond to the questions. I think it needs to be a multi era question that will cover a wide spectrum so we dont just focus on WWII. Anyway I am glad to see another member here who collects Britains.

I joined the club back in 02. I really enjoy the magazine the Standard since its focus is on mainly things Britains but I also said that since it comes out quarterly they should link the aritcles to the web site and have a more indepth article or at least give the article and a list of resources where we can do our own research if there is something we would like to know more about. I know there are lots of folks out there that are far more savy with webdesign so there really isnt a reason for the club to have such a poor website. Anyway, back to the issue at hand I think we should conduct a poll and see where it takes us.

All the best

Dave

Dave,

Good idea about linking Standard articles to the website. I understand they plan to update the site after they get the catalogue/Standard out.

Agree with your comments about the pole. We could have options such as "famous WWII German tank," "Napoleonic era band," "SuperDeetail WWII British or German paratroops," "SuperDeetail WWI range,"....

Like the idea of a poll guys. As some members know we just did a survey in The Standard which was ver informative. So the more info the better. SOme interesting glossy things and others in the works - some of you have hit a couple right on - in this thread - so either we're all crazy or great minds do think a like!

Given what Richard says, do we still go with a poll or do you want to wait to see what's in the new catalogue next month?

Re the 5298 Lawrence and the arab revolt
Its a very nice set ,the only thing you have to be carefull of is the rifles of the guys on the camels are prone to breaking.Mine arrived broken and
I,ve seen it a few times on E bay with the same problem.
It would be nice too see something along this line as a new
limited iedtion, ie The charge of the light brigade set they made.
