Something that has crossed my mind on more than 1 occasion, and I suspect possibly other of your minds as well, is will Britains release additional 93rd Highlander figures in the VC Crimea range?

With 1 club figure already on display, and the piper club figure expected any time now, I wonder if we can expect to see a 'Thin Red Line' theme start to develop with future releases. With all of the discussion related to K&C's TRL coming in June (which I may decide to collect), the question again surfaces in my mind.

Hi Mr. Dave,

Well I think you are asking a good question here and will go out on a limb and speculate that we will probably be seeing some more 93rd Figures in the not too distant future. Just a guess based on a gut feeling here so dont think I have any "insider info".

I will say that the success of K&Cs Crimean line is not surprising because they are quite well executed but wow are they ever pricy and with the dollar in the toilet and shipping from overseas as expensive as ever I will be passing on them for a while. I will also point out that they are much larger in scale than the Britains current figures so they dont mix well in a display space so keep that in mind when you go to set up the display case.

Lets hope that maybe Ken or Richard will pop in and give us a clue or two for as of yet unmentioned additions coming in '08 and beyond.

All the best

Dave

Thanks for the feedback, Dave. I agree about the pricing on those K&C Crimea items being a bit prohibitive for me. They are amazing! I could not afford to collect the mounted figures for sure. As far as the thin red line goes, though, I might be tempted to shell out the 40+ USD per 6-8 figures expected out in June. Especially if I do not anticipate an alternative that I am crazy about. The downside would definitely be the larger size issue which is why I don't have a lot of K&C now, so they would be displayed seperately. On the other hand, if I felt that Britains were going to "fill out the ranks" a bit with more of the excellent 93rd figures they have produced recently, I would probably be less inclined to purchase the K&C version.:cool:

Yo troopers, I am new member ex Queens Own Hussars, only collecting 6 months. To answer the question the best 93rd Higlanders I have seen are Frontline figuers and a good price as well. I think Britains have lost the plot the price they ask for one figure these days. I am a cavalry nut, have just set up the battle of Balaklava looks great, would not have been able to do it only for Britains sets of the 1990s. Old Britains missed out the most important cavalry Regiments cannot understand why. Need help here has anyone seen the 6th Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, only one I have seen do these is Hocker. Cant start the Heavy Brigade Charge without them lol. Just like to thank Geoff Duin for all his help, plus his excellent site, the best I have seen yet.

Hello, welcome to the forum, glad to see that you like the Crimean War like myself and others here. In answer to your question re 6th Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, there was a set of Britains number 00169 BRITISH HEAVY BRIGADE Presentation five piece boxed set, which had I belive, one (or more?) of these mounted figures along with figures from other regts.

Monarch Regalia makes new figures done to a very high standard of 4 heavy brigade regiments, including the 6th inniskillings. They can be viewed and purchased through Tedtoy miniatures. Check out his website. I'll attach photos of the figures you are interested in.

As far as Frontline's Thin Red Line series goes, I agree that some of those sets are great. My 2 favorites are the officer set and the wounded guys set.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the welcome to site. Have the Heavy Brigade, and it took a couple of weeks to realise that four of them are the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons with a Royal Scots Officer, cant understand their thinking on that one. Asked Hocker could he do me the Officer from his 6th Inniskilling and was going to use that with the four out of Britains Heavy Brigade ( is that cheating or acceptable lol). The problem is who to put in for the 4th Royal Irish Dragoons they were in the Heavy Brigade, another Regiment Britains did not seem to bother with. Mister Dave gave me some good info on Tedtoys site, going to see if they make them.

Hello Mister Dave:

We will indeed continue to add to the TRL collection later in 2008. Of course our series will remain in gloss closer to the true 54mm scale. And I would imagine K&C will stay with their matte finish 60mm size. So two very different looks. Down to personal taste and I guess pocketbook to some degree as both ranges will be good in their own way.

All the best,

Richard

Thanks for your feedback, Richard. I look forward to adding more of those new figures to the line up later in the year. I don't suppose we could press you for any juicy details on those future releases? Had to ask. Thanks again, Richard and hope to see you this Spring at Paul's open house.

I don't collect Crimean War but I do have some Imperial Coldstream Guards in my collection. Imperial has some nice Thin Red Line sets which would go well with my Guards:). Also New Monarch Regalia's Crimean Highlanders look terrific on photo. Check them out at http://www.toysoldiers.fr/index.asp?ID=474&IDF=49. I believe All the Queens Men had terrific Thin Red Line sets too.
From the ones I have better seen on photo I think at the moment you can not get any better than Imperial or New Monarch. That said I am an absolute fan of the new Britains gloss figures, so I would expect something very special coming up...

Yes, I can tell you that the Monarch version of 93rd Highlanders at Balaclava are probably some of the most detailed gloss figures I have ever seen. I have 1 set of those at present.

How would you compare them with Imperial's? Any preference?

I personally feel Monarch's are a bit better than Imperial, though have always liked Imperial figures a lot. I base this on the level of detail present in facial expressions and highland uniform details. They are about the same size.

Many thanks for the info. Monarch look terrific, I now also remember their US Marines, they seem excellent. It's a pity they are relatively hard to find and new releases seem not to be coming that fast. In fact, thinking again, maybe slower new releases are not such a bad thing ( for my wallett and room, that is ):D. Sorry for being a little out of thread on this one...:D
